Extreme sensitive eyelids - eye cream ?

Jennalong · 17/03/2024 10:06

I have extremely sensitive skin on my face . I also get eczema and are sometimes prescribed steroid cream which cannot be used long term.
Every morning inspite of using various creams Dermol 500 , Epiderm , QV Cream , Aveeno and lots of others I wake up to peeling skin across my eyelids which come off and the same for in and behind my ears.
Any ideas of what has worked for you ?

I used La Roche Posay Dermallergo when I developed eczema around my eyes.
This stuff:

I'd use a cosmetic cotton bud (the flatter rounder end) to put a bit of the cream on and then I'd dispose of the cotton bud for that eye. Repeat on the other eye.

It meant that I wasn't touching the cream, the eye or any part of the process. It worked for me.

This might also work if applied in the same way:

@LookItsMeAgain

I've used the cicaplast one , but didn't know about the eye cream you suggest , so thanks for that .

Hope you get some relief!

Sounds insane but L’Oreal Revatalift eye is the only thing my eyelid tolerates. Aveeno and la Roche posay aggregated it. I’m too scared to try anything different now

Hydrosil dry eye gel. Swear by it!

I get this every winter and had tried everything including Cicaplast and E45. I bought this cheap Simple night cream in desperation and was amazed that it cleared it almost overnight. Eyelids were completely back to normal on the second nights application.

I have extremely dehydrated and sensitive under eyes. I've been using cerave moisturising cream, then I top it off with a layer of vaseline to keep in the moisture. It's improved things but isn't a miracle cure.

I use Dermalogica Barrier Repair around my eyes, not technically an eye cream and pricey but brilliant stuff.

I have Blepharitis and my eyes get very irritated and sore.

This does sound good.

Use a tiny amount of a hydrocortisone cream. I found that everything else just aggravated it. Have had this on and off for 30 odd years.

After my daughter was born my already existing eczema turned extreme. My eyes were red, wrinkly, sagging and constantly itchy (I was itchy all over). I went to a very highly recommended dermatologist and he said to just use 50/50 ointment or Vaseline. I had eczema for 30 years. After washing with only 50/50 ointment, and using only Vaseline for skincare/creams, I am 100% eczema free. I was on the strongest steroids, was only washing with dermol 500 before. I'm never going back and I always have a Vaseline mini on me. If you have chronic eczema, you're often sensitive to even the ingredients in moisturisers you've been prescribed so they help but they also make it worse.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions , a few I've already tried , and a few new ones I'll give a go.

I'm prescribed a protopic cream from my GP.

It's the only thing that clears it up when it flares. Hydrocortisone gave temporary relief but it would come back the minute I stopped using it, and like you say it can't be used longer term.

I was diagnosed with blepharitis a few years ago - which I think may not have been the correct diagnosis but hey ho - and has an awful time with upper and lower eyelid skin being so poorly.

I've been using Blephasol lotion twice a day to clean them (and it removes eye make up) followed by Feather Canyon eye cream from Pai (they do a 90 day money back guarantee and so many of their products are so lovely and soothing) twice a day.

Touch wood I've only had one minor flare up of what ever it was since then. My eyes are much happier Grin

Be very very careful with eye skin op as the skin's barrier can get knackered so easily then it's like anything you put near it for a while will just make things worse

notsuchafrugalkitty · 18/03/2024 21:57

I use Obvs intensive skin repair cream on the eczema on my eyelids, it's magic stuff. You can get it on the Superdrug website or direct from obvs and the owner will send you a sample.

Setyoufree · 18/03/2024 22:05

Eucerin is the only thing that I've found works for me. But what really clears it up is if I have a run of eating really clean - if I cut down on sugar and alcohol, it clears up....
