Moisturiser for spot prone 12 YO

Hi all,
Can anyone please recommend a moisturiser for spot prone DD? She's only 12 and already has a lot of spots on her forehead but also some dry skin patches (poor kid!).
She uses the Boots cucumber moisturiser because it's light but not sure if she should be using something specifically for spot prone/blemish-y skin.

Use anything with witch hazel/ salicylic acid as that helps clear spots. Simple products are good.

Thank you, found a witch hazel and tea tree one in Boots which I'll get

Witch hazel and tea tree are dreadful for skin as are Simple products because they are not hood fur skin at all. These were used in the 80's and skincare has mice on a great deal since then

But Cerave SA face wash and Benzoyl Peroxide cream

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 16/03/2024 07:56

My two dd use cerave. The oldest had quite bad skin and the blemish one has cleared it up massively.

UpsideLeft · 16/03/2024 07:56

Oops a few spelling mistakes there

Mice = moved on

Hood - good

Fur - for

Richtea67 · 16/03/2024 07:57

I'd try something non comeogenic, as that doesn't block pores but will still moisturise the dry patches. Anything harsh will likely dry it out further. Olay complete might fit the bill

UpsideLeft · 16/03/2024 07:57

If it gets worse see your GP and they should prescribe Lymecycline and Benzoyl peroxide if they're on the ball

Bilingualspingual · 16/03/2024 07:59

I’d be going with the Ordinary azelaic acid cream/serum. Online or in larger boots.

La Roche Posay Effeclar Duo is a great moisturiser for spot prone skin

Or just use a gel based one like Neutrogena Hydro boost gel or Boots No 7 Hydraluminous gel

ASighMadeOfStone · 16/03/2024 08:01

La Roche Posay Effaclar range has a mild salicylic which would be good in the first instance of the beginnings of hormonal breakouts. They do a wash and moisturizer.

If that doesn't help (though it transformed my daughter's skin) then BP though that is much harsher and works in a different way.

Definitely agree with pp- ditch the Simple. It's dreadful stuff.

UpsideLeft · 16/03/2024 08:01

Don't use The Ordinary or Olay on her skin it's just basic crap won't do anything sorry but true

Sparkletastic · 16/03/2024 08:03

Cera Ve is very good

goldeline · 16/03/2024 11:33

Dermalogica Clear Start or La Roche Posay Effeclar

UpsideLeft · 17/03/2024 02:12

We've moved on to Dermalogica Clear start for DD it's very concentrated compared to Cerave SA so it lasts ages. It's more expensive so I didn't want to recommend it but it's really good stuff

GoingOnHol · 17/03/2024 07:18

Thanks everyone, been looking through the different recommendations.

Definitely recommend seeing the GP. It's so difficult to get treatment for acne but if you can show that she's suffered for a long time it will help. (Hopefully, it will clear up, but if it doesn't there's record of it).

thank you I think I'll get her an appointment in the Easter holidays. Our surgery is a nightmare to get into so easier when She isn't at school

She started getting spots in the first lock down so really young and a long time ago, once she started washing her face properly it did help but her forehead is usually covered in the little red bumpy spots & they are starting to spread. she is quite self conscious about it 😔

Be careful using actives on very young skin. Something like black clay soap may be better for her

theusualwednesday · 17/03/2024 07:58

I think the inkey list is a nice range and their delivery is good and quick.

Paulas choice bha is great for acne and tell her not to soak a cotton pad with it (too expensive!) but just to put a few drops in her palm and pat over face and let dry.

also if she’s using actives then she needs sunscreen every single day! Superdrug do a good bioré one

Blake10 · 17/03/2024 08:55

Cera ve skin care is good, if it's starting to bother her maybe a trip to the gp.

GoingOnHol · 17/03/2024 16:59

Scuse my ignorance but what are actives?! Active ingredients? What constitutes an active??
She's been using this face wash (and its working) but is it too harsh? I wanted to get her a moisturiser because she says her skin feels tight after she's washed it

This might be a good range to explore: https://elizabethsdaughter.co.uk/

I am not remotely convinced that a 12 year old needs a moisturiser. If her skin feels tight after washing she needs a gentler cleanser, along with something specific for the spots.

I really recommend the CeraVe cleansers - the Foaming one for normal to oily skin is great for cleansing without drying or stripping. They also do a blemish control one which I haven’t tried.

That Acnecide cleanser does sound quite harsh - as it contains benzoyl peroxide it will be drying. i’d go with Cerave cleanser and Acnecide cream instead - put the cream on spot prone areas only, avoid areas like round the eyes which are drier and more delicate.

La Roche Posay Effaclar range is good too
