How can I make my hair like this?

I have long shiny straight hair. I'd like to be able to do casual swish with it, like a sort of no-parting dishevelled look, but my hair is so slippery it doesn't really stay put.

Is there a name for this hair style and how to create it?

How can I make my hair like this?

It looks like she has thick wavy hair. My hair is also wavy and it would stay in that style by itself if I just flipped it over with my hand. If your hair is very straight or fine you might not be able to get it to go in that style. Or maybe if you add some texture with rollers and product.

In my experience (shiny, straight, fine hair) - no. I TRIED.

Just let your hair do what it does best.

Nots456 · 14/03/2024 20:27

Oh. Yes my hair doesn't stay like that if I flip it. It just flops back into straight with no texture to it at all.

This is sad news.

Yes and no. Your hair can do loads of things thick wavy hair can’t!!

coxesorangepippin · 15/03/2024 01:54

Put loads of mousse and dry shampoo on it, then flick it over on to one side and add hairspray

fozwomble · 15/03/2024 02:47

I'd try texturising powder (Got2B do one that's decent and won't break the bank). It's a weird texture and quite unlike dry shampoo but will help with this kind of look. If your hair is super straight then I'd try loose rags or curling wand on fairly chunky sections of hair. Let them drop a bit then run your hands through for a more relaxed look.

@fozwomble @coxesorangepippin
Thanks for those suggestions. I'll give them a try.

I’m not sure it is a style as such, more a type. My hair is like this, my DD’s hair is like yours. If you look at one of DD’s hairs, they are soft and fine, like silk. One of my hairs, in comparison is much thicker, and more like fine wire. As such it holds shape a texture effortlessly, but never feels as soft as DD’s, need once it has been straightened.

In DD’s favour, she can leave her hair without styling and still look lovely. Mine looks like a cross between a lion’s mane and a birds nest! I say enjoy your silken locks for what they are.

NightWithoutStars · 15/03/2024 05:47

Looks like mine before l straighten it.
I have think wavy hair that is cut in to layers.

Pepsimaxedout · 15/03/2024 06:17

Her hair is thick and wavy. It also looks like it could be lightened, so bleached and that dries your hair out ridiculously. I wouldn't recommend doing that though!

Covetthee · 15/03/2024 06:22

Mousse when wet, dry your hair upside down or all back (ie no parting) tie hair up, use a large curling tong to curl the end of the pony tail and using fingers comb out and then take out use Sea salt texturising spray.

generally works well for me but due to the texturising spray, i get 2 days of this look 🤣 so sometimes not worth the effort

Itsonlymashadow · 15/03/2024 06:23

I get my hair that texture by putting mousse in. Drying upside down. Then using a curling iron to do quite big curls with chunky sections. I used a heat protector and styler all in one before I curl each section. I give myself a middle parting. Then when it’s finished move the parting to the side.

i Comb the curls out and spray some hair spray.

However, my hair has a bit of a wave and holds a curl. My mums hair, never held a curl. We tried it all, curling with straighteners, heated rollers, curling iron and so on and it always went straight in a few hours. Even when the hair dresser did it.

Elephantswillnever · 15/03/2024 06:27

Sea salt spray! Spray through hair when wet concentrating on roots run it through with your fingers. Stick it up in a messy pineapple topknot (top of your head) leave to dry overnight. Lots of waves and volume, my hair is naturally fine but there’s lots of it.

AltitudeCheck · 15/03/2024 06:30

Yes, the sea salt / mermaid curls spray will do this. Leaves your hair feeling a bit sticky and gross though if you're used to smooth shiny locks!

FindingMeno · 15/03/2024 06:54

I'm in the same boat, but damage from bleach has helped the situation 😂

JuniperJanet · 15/03/2024 07:00

Try root volume powder and salt or sugar spray.

MillyMollyMandy01 · 15/03/2024 07:23

That’s quite a heavily layered haircut. Try some Bumble & Bumble surf spray to get similar texture and hold.
