Vinted duds....come share yours?

Bought my first dud on Vinted. Annoyed at myself. Only a tenner all in, but still. Excellent cobditin, exactly as described, just looks shit 😆Don't think I can be bothered relisting. Will just donate to charity shop. Was a jumpsuit. Some things you just need to try on!

Anyone else want to come commiserate?

Also a 10 pound jumpsuit! From a brand I have a couple from but didn’t realise the style I’d ordered was subtly different and it turns out doesn’t suit me! It’s very comfy though so tempted to keep for WFH days…

Pleasegotobed · 14/03/2024 20:07

I’ve definitely had some duds. A pair of mint velvet jeans that I couldn’t get past my knees (no idea how they were possibly the size on label!) and an Alice temperley blazer that makes me look like I should be in a pantomime… Also have bought stuff that just wasn’t right size - have relisted all and mostly only lost a quid or so.

The wins - Ralph Lauren jeans £3, cashmere jumper which I LOVE £10, Reiss shirt for £5.. many many others!

Glad not just me. Have only bought a few things and until now very happy. I guess you just have to factor in the chance!

I've had loads, there was a lot of trial and error for me when I started using Vinted. I've always managed to re-sell things though, and I'm more careful now about what I do buy.

I mostly use it to buy higher-priced items more affordably, and am very pleased with most of my purchases.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2024 23:11

I've only had a couple ,one was a bag that was really quite tatty so binned it as it wasn't even really good enough for the charity shop and I had a couple of jumpers that weren't quite right so passed them on to mates. Mostly though I get absolute bargains. I LOVE Vinted 💜

baggagecabbage · 14/03/2024 23:17

I bought a pair of gorgeous shoes listed as a size 8, which I am. Paid the price that they were listed at as didn't want to miss out and couldn't wait to get them.
They arrived and because I was so pleased they were in excellent condition, confirmed everything was ok, wanting the seller to get their money as soon as possible, and left feedback without trying them on.

Went to put the shoes on and realised they were a 7 and couldn't get them on. The seller had cocked up but there was nothing I could do as I had confirmed all ok. So annoyed with myself for not checking and being eager to please and with the seller for listing them wrong in the first place. Lesson learned.

I bought a pair of shoes that were supposed very good condition - I could smell the woman’s feet as soon as the InPost locker door swung open. £10 plus postage! I just binned them. Couldn’t be arsed with the return malarkey.

I recently bought a knitted dress despite never owning one or even trying one on before in my life. It had a lovely quirky design and I was feeling confident because I lost a lot of weight last year. Well. I genuinely don't think I've ever had an item of clothing look so bad on me! It somehow made me look like a spinster and pregnant. I was horrified but it's almost impressive how much it transforms me.

I should re-list it but I'm too lazy Blush I might just donate it.

Invisimamma · 14/03/2024 23:50

Next shirt listed as brand new with tags. It was a completely different size, no tags, stanks of cigarettes and had big yellow stains under the armpits 🤢. Buyer refused there was any problem and postage to send back would've been more than the refund.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 14/03/2024 23:50

I've had some stinky trainers too. Can people not smell their own stinky feet? Listed as excellent condition, as new etc.

Back21970 · 15/03/2024 00:07

Mine was a toddlers spotted rain jacket which was so smelly I had to immediately hang in the garden, smelt worse than if a cat had peed on it.

I was honestly gagging with the stink when I opened the parcel.

To add insult it was a size 12 Monsoon (non spotted) rain jacket I ordered and the only reason I could put for wanting to return it was ‘not as described’.

The seller eventually responded and said they sent the wrong thing and promised to send the correct one if I returned it, at my own cost ☹️

I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle and had no confidence in what they would send me next so it went in the charity shop bag after a wash.

I have had a few duds but that really put me off - always now check the seller feedback and look at their other items now.

Recently bought some brand new Levi’s for under £20 though so it’s not all bad 😀

Precipice · 15/03/2024 00:15

postage to send back would've been more than the refund.

Are you sure about this? That's not my understanding of the procedure. The postage would be deducted, but it should be equal to the postage charge that you'd originally paid, so that you should receive back the initial price of the item itself (as what the seller would have earned) at least.

BringMeTea · 15/03/2024 07:58

I have had 3 items that were not as described, dirty, damaged etc and have raised each one. I feel fortunate that each one has refunded and only one wanted a return but they paid the postage. So it's always worth raising.

GinnyWizz · 15/03/2024 08:03

My DH also bought some trousers that came as if the guy just picked them up off the floor, with tissues and sweet wrappers in the pockets! They were fine after a clear out and wash...I'm not sure they were even the same trousers from the pictures!

Did you go through Vinted about it? They would have sorted the costs surely as it’s the sellers error, not yours?

I’ve done exactly the same thing…twice. Both times listed as an 8 but they are a 7!

lipgoss · 15/03/2024 09:46

A gorgeous Finery dress that I knew probably wouldn't fit me as it's short sleeve with a non elasticated cuff, and my arms are disproportionately chubby... Should never have bought! Relisted and still waiting to sell, all the while thinking maybe some day I'll get into it.....
On the plus I've bought a number of pairs of designer shoes now (Jimmy Choo, Gianvito Rossi, Aquazurra) for relatively cheap as chips, and been absolutely thrilled with all of them!

almostthere75 · 15/03/2024 09:51

I have brought things that definitely don't suit me but I've never had an issue with the quality and the description.

It's hard not to get carried away with buying and buying!

WhataPithy · 15/03/2024 14:44

Mine was also a jumpsuit. It was as described but once it arrived my immediate thought was what an earth I had been thinking (navy crinkle fabric with big palm tree print) 😂 it was only £3 + postage so charity bag it went.

There was a time when I definitely got carried away with purchases. Now much more discerning. I’ve also made some fantastic purchases costing very little.

WhataPithy · 15/03/2024 14:51

@baggagecabbage I’ve learnt this the hard way too. Bought a Warehouse dress, took a quick cursory look in the evening and marked ok. Next morning in the bright daylight I noticed the armpits covered in powdery deodorant residue. All came off in the wash but it’s bit yak nevertheless. Now I take my time to check the item properly before accepting it.

Regarding the refunds, one of my first sales was Reiss trousers, only worn few times and 100% great condition. The buyer claimed they had lighter press marks from the iron and wanted a refund. She sent super overblown pictures, supposedly highlighting these marks. I tried to fight it, over a period of couple of weeks but in the end I had to refund her in full and she got to keep the trousers. So I don’t understand how other people can’t get a refund?

lindyloo57 · 15/03/2024 17:25

I brought from ebay two dresses one i loved, the other one had a stain on it which was crusty, good knows what it was, so I messaged the seller to complain that I wanted to keep one and send the dirty one back. Well she went a bit mad saying that as they were so cheap, couldn't I just sling it in the machine, I said thats not the point I expected it to be clean, in the end I bined the dirty one and kept the other.
