Damaged Coach bag, advice please.

I bought a Coach bag from an outlet store in October, it’s been used maybe once/twice a week (so it really hasn’t been used to death!). They offer a one year warranty on all products.
The leather has rubbed away at the corner of the bag and it looks awful, so I contacted them for the repair offered under their warranty. They said it can’t be repaired and contact the store I bought it at for refund or exchange.
I contacted the store who won’t offer a refund, just an exchange.
Issue being, the store is over an hour away and given it’s an outlet I don’t know what the stock will be - so I don’t really want to drive all that way to the store to not find anything or end up a bag I don’t want?
I do feel like they should refund me given it’s under warranty (and it can’t be repaired!) but given they won’t I’m not sure whether to just go and see what I can get in the outlet, or chuck the bag on Vinted and see if I can recoup some of the money.
What would you do?

Have you contacted Coach? Maybe they offer a repair service

Blueberrycreampie · 13/03/2024 11:10

I would have thought that under the law (sale of goods act) or some such that as the item is faulty they have to refund you?

AuntieJoyce · 13/03/2024 11:11

I would go to the outlet. I was in the outlet at York a couple of weeks ago and the selection was really good.

I have - they do offer one but after I sent pics of the bag they said it couldn’t be fixed

No after 30 days, they don't have to refund it. They should repair or replace but if the repair doesn't work or the replacement develops the same fault in the first 6 months they have to refund it. 6 months might be 12 because of the extended warranty.

The Coach shop in Regent Street offers a repair service - might be worth contacting them and explaining the situation uk.coach.com/support/repairs

Blueberrycreampie · 15/03/2024 12:32

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle Well that's crap - 30 days is nothing, as you can usually return something within that period even if not faulty! Thought it would be longer than that, I bought a suitcase from an outlet and took it back after several years, only to ask about repair at my expense and they repaired it foc!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/03/2024 21:36

Why not contact the outlet store and ask them to hold a bag for you if they have it in stock?

It's not "crap". You enter into a contract when you buy something. Other than distance selling there's no automatic right just to change your mind if there's nothing wrong with the goods. Even the 30 days is for goods aren't fit for purpose.

Anything beyond what is in the Sale of Goods Act is at the retailer's discretion.

I agree - especially when they say they offer a years warranty, I’m not impressed at all!

I’ve had the same experience with a pair of boots I bought. Half the sole fell off after a couple of months, store offered a years warranty so I took them back for repair and they gave me new ones! So was expecting much better from Coach given it’s a higher end brand.

They've offered you a replacement though - so they haven't offered you nothing

There's a year's warranty in which they have to repair or offer a replacement if the bag was faulty. You wanted a bag from Coach and they're offering to replace the faulty one.

It's perfectly clear on Sale of Goods Act and their website.
