Long lasting, timeless pieces

I'm after pieces that will last me longer than two seasons.
I don't know if it's me doing something wrong but over the past few years, whatever clothing I bought just doesn't last. And I do appreciate that primark clothes were never going to last, it's other brands that surprise me. I've bought a few t shirts from M&S, wore them two times and they just look so stretched. Lots of my clothes also have loose threads and look washed out after a few wears. Don't even get me started on the fact that most fabric are now see through! It's bad enough that I'm short and fat so finding something that fits me is a challenge itself.

I try to follow the instructions on care labels to ensure clothes last me long but the effect is negligible!

I'm happy to spend more money to actually have clothes that will last years. My preference is midi-maxi dresses and skirts, culottes/culotte style jumpsuits, flared trousers.
I'm not keen on florals but happy with other patterns.
Please hit me with your recommendations on brands that have quality clothing that I can preferably mix and match 🙏🏻

Usually when people say ‘short and fat’ on S&B they mean 5’5 and size 14 …

(That was a question!)

I think the quality of most clothes has greatly declined in the last 20 years. But I do think taking care of how you wash your clothes makes a big difference. I don’t do hot washes or use a tumble dryer, and I don’t wash things like jeans or jumpers too often.

Woolovers are good & they’ve started to sell things like linen dresses as well as woollens. Debenhams are sorely missed as they used to carry some good brands not too expensive. I can’t comment on John Lewis stock as no branches anywhere near me but have friends living in other regions who rate them.

Oh - did you lose interest in your thread, @Natsash?

Natsash · 21/03/2024 00:19

@BlossomBlossomBlossom sorry! Completely forgot I posted, I'm 5'2 and 14/16 clothes mostly, most of it is in my thighs/bottom and c-section overhang so I find it really hard to find flattering clothes. Especially trousers that I can squeeze into that won't drag on the floor at the same time.

@Notcontent thank you, I'll check their website out.
I think there is an element of washing clothes too often, I try to not to but it's difficult to stay clean with a toddler 😂

Welcome back to your thread!

You might find Community Clothing useful for ‘looking after toddler’ clothing, as well as more generally. They are ethically and environmentally exemplary:

Beyond Nine might be of interest - and their range of dresses and jumpsuits is broadening.

And Toast is the queen of culottes, often in hard wearing denim, so you would be sure to find something - whether new (there are endless sales) or pre-owned.

BTW - there should never be any need for trouser hems to drag on the floor as long as there are seamstresses and tailors offering alteration services in every town in the country!

UK made sustainable, ethical clothing & accessories for men and women

Community Clothing was established by Patrick Grant with a simple goal; to sell quality, affordable, sustainable and ethical men's & women's clothing, whilst creating jobs & restoring economic prosperity in the UK’s most deprived areas. All clothes mad...
