If so, where do you shop?

Thanks, they're very bright and colourful which is nice. I find most are afraid of colour. It's so important and good to be different.

You'll need a hard hat. Those clothes are awful.

Did that make you feel better? Or does it upset you to see confident women dressing how they please? Small minded nonsense.

I agree they would look awful on many people, but she carries them off well because she has the flair, looks, confidence, physique, personality and presence to do so. She also probably doesn't care much what people think.

allaloneandlost · 12/03/2024 10:41

If somebody has the looks and personality good for them. I don't have either but like the colourful yet modest and different style.

Ooh you might appreciate the coat I just got from ByVinnik

www.byvinnik.com/

Excellent for flouncing about in

allaloneandlost · 12/03/2024 13:26

Thanks, how amazing. Bet you look great in that and it would be nice with a long dress.

That was unnecessarily mean. And says way more about you than it does about the clothes.

Rich Petunia? Aunt Petunia more like.

Interestingly I prefer to dress quite modestly (in that I usually wear long dresses, prefer long / 3/4 length sleeves, don't often wear things that are low cut or will wear a pretty vest / cami under lower cut dresses) but because I also dress like a Christmas tree no one seems to notice. I wear quite a lot of bright colours, patterns, or very rich jewel tones / velvet and fancy shoes.

I'm not sure that I have the looks to carry it off but the older I get the less I care about what others think and the more I dress in things that make me happy.

allaloneandlost · 12/03/2024 15:52

Oh thanks, what colourful clothes and very forgiving! They help the local community as well.

Sounds like you dress and look brilliant Verity. Being comfortable and happy is all that matters!

www.asos.com/search/?q=Modest&currentpricerange=0-230&page=2&refine=attribute_10992:61379 - ASOS let you search by modest and have some nice prints

www.warehousefashion.com/categories/womens-dresses - Warehouse have some surprisingly nice dresses but it is very hit and miss and it depends if you are oppose to polyester for some of them

jennafergracecollection.com/collections/caftans - some of these caftans are very pretty

I have a couple of Joanie dresses and some from Monsoon and Sugarhill.

allaloneandlost · 13/03/2024 12:23

Oh thanks so much!

Asos have sales and didn't know Warehouse was still going. The kaftans are great. Have some of those clothes as well. Very unusual!

Sarah millican wears the Zuri dresses.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 17/03/2024 06:53

The picture of Molly Parkin, she looks like she’s wearing a Nigerian agbada. Have a search online, you can find them on Etsy, or find a seamstress.

FloreatEtona · 17/03/2024 12:51

Which picture of MP, @NorthFaceofthelaundrypile ? In the link I posted she said she designed her own clothes.

allaloneandlost · 18/03/2024 17:25

Thanks for the replies and interesting ideas. Sarah Millican has an unusual and modest style. We're similar ages and shape. Etsy has nice stuff and supports small businesses.

Have you seen Wrapunzel (FB and web)? I'd have thought scarves are more versatile than hats.

FloreatEtona · 18/03/2024 20:43

@NorthFaceofthelaundrypile , if you look at the videos in the link she says she makes her own clothes.

From wiki "To support her two daughters, Parkin turned to fashion. After making hats and bags for Barbara Hulanicki at Biba, and working alongside Mary Quant, she opened her own Chelsea boutique, which was featured in a Newsweek article about Swinging London. "

allaloneandlost · 19/03/2024 00:34

Thanks. Wrapunzel has great stuff and you wouldn't find them anywhere else.
