Nipples on show

Hi - does anyone else have this problem?
When I wear white or any light colour the shape of my nipples always seems fairly evident - this is in gym tops, shirts, blouses etc. and no matter what bra.
I don’t know why but this seems to have become more of an issue with age…could that be right? I’m 47 now and fairly big boobed on a small frame so I always think it’s v evident and really stops me wearing a lot of the clothes I have.
does anyone else use nipple shields or anything to prevent this?
TIA

It can’t be just me with this??

Surely you don’t really mean “any bra”? I can’t see how you could show through a moulded solid “tshirt bra”. That’s what they’re for.

OldKingCole · 10/03/2024 21:13

Yep - I wear t shirts bras - although I don’t think they are solid? They are the usual M&S t shirt ones

I have this. I have big nipples to be honest and I'm also usually cold so that probably doesn't help. I don't find it much of an issue in winter because as I said, I'm always cold and wear lots of chunky jumpers or big hoodies and so on. In summer it is a pain though.

I mostly wear dark coloured tops or patterned tops, they both hide it better. I also only wear plain padded/ moulded bras under any tight/light tops. But I find it difficult to find moulded bras that fit me well because I'm bottom-heavy so then it's a trade off whether I want ever so slightly noticeable nip if you're really looking vs can see that bra doesn't fit properly through the top because of gaping at the tops of cups etc.

Occasionally with certain bra/top combos and if I'm feeling particularly self-conscious/depends where I'm going I will wear nipple covers. You can buy them from Bravissimo and often Superdrug etc, the stick on disposable ones. They do disguise them a bit but if a top is very clingy or thin then you can sometimes see the outline of the edges of the nipple cover through the top which I think is probably weirder than seeing nipples tbh.

I try my best to just forget about it if I've taken reasonable precautions with my clothes and not in a formal setting tbh. I can't really help my body and I can't be bothered to agonise over it. Plus I'm sure it's not as visible/obvious to others as to ourselves anyway when we are just hyper-aware of how we look.

OldKingCole · 11/03/2024 19:53

Thank you @WeightoftheWorld - actually I think it’s the same for me - I am always cold and definitely not as much an issue in summer.

I am going to get some of the nipple covers you mentioned and try those.

I’m puzzled as to how a nipple outline can be noticed through a moulded bra. OP, l think you may want to revisit moulded T-shirt bras.

I’ve no experience of nipple covers, but l can’t imagine them being comfy, but other people would know better than me.

Having said all this, both men and women all have nipples, l don’t really understand why the female nipple is still considered taboo, because it’s on a mound. Apart from when l’m at work, l often go braless in the hot weather (less sweaty without elastic round your back), so l expect half the UK have seen my nipples 😀.

Lifestooshort71 · 12/03/2024 08:26

I had a mastectomy in 2022 and gave up on bras and foobs so I just use a nipple cover on remaining torpedo. I wouldn't wear a tight white t-shirt (would be too obvious) but get by with most other tops. I think buy a thicker bra for white tops and try a nipple cover - Amazon, Primark etc.

OldKingCole · 12/03/2024 21:42

Thank you all for the suggestions and help - I am definitely going to revisit the moulded bra, try a few different types etc!

Definitely not just you ! I also have a small frame but am 36HH so can’t buy padded / moulded bras, so am really restricted and often end up wearing a cardigan/jacket even if I’m warm.

CoolShoeshine · 12/03/2024 22:27

I bulk buy nipple covers from eBay and wear them everyday, I wouldn’t be without them anymore. I use them a number of times and throw away once the stickiness starts to go. My nipples seem to show through most bras and I find them incredibly embarrassing.

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 12/03/2024 22:27

I think you’re making a ‘thing’ of this.

I don’t have small boobs and I don’t wear a bra - I just feel more comfortable without. I really don’t care if anyone sees the shape or outline of my nipples.

It’s bizarre to me that women wear bras that are designed to lift and separate the breasts, making them seem larger and more appealing, yet have a horror of the nipple, buying covers and all sorts to then hide them……..

DivorcedAndDelighted · 12/03/2024 22:29

I get it but I don't care and I wouldn't wear nipple covers. It's just part of my body outline - nobody's going to be offended by it, surely?

tillyandmilly · 12/03/2024 22:34

Try a thicker bra - Triumph bras as brilliant

CoolShoeshine · 12/03/2024 22:34

@Hmmmbetterchangethis @DivorcedAndDelighted but not all people want to wear bras which lift and separate, some prefer to minimise their breasts and likewise their nipples. I do it for myself because I think mine are unsightly, not to avoid offending others.

ETgo · 12/03/2024 22:38

I also have this issue - even with moulded t-shirt bras my nipples still show through a vest top and ribbed jumper - they're just too big not too!
I don't feel comfortable knowing others may notice - mainly as people have commented before about them (tbh this says more about the other person but still makes me uncomfortable)
I wear bra pad inserts - basically fabric inserts like you sometimes get in swimming costumes etc? I've found the sticky covers a bit irritating in the past and these fabric ones cover a larger area and gives a much more smooth silhouette.

I get this - tbh one is constantly to attention and the other constantly inverted so I look wonky - but I don't care. They're a normal body part! I'm not going to wear a padded sort of bra to hide them away.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 13/03/2024 12:46

I used to put sellotape over mine

Over your actual nipples?? Or your bra?

It's bizarre to you that some women don't like having men clearly staring and gawping at their nipples when they're out going about everyday life?

I don't wear bras 'designed to lift and separate the breasts' or ones that are trying to make 'them seem larger and more appealing'. I never ever show cleavage. I agree people should be able to wear what they want and a nipple is a body part and I try not to worry about it much or put too much effort into hiding them, although it depends on the context. But there have been times when I've not bothered and it surely isn't unsurprising that I generally want to try to avoid situations like the time we spent a family day out at a farm and both DH and I continually clocked men clearly leering at my nipples cos I was wearing a t shirt and unpadded bra?

Of course we shouldn't have to accommodate horrible men but I can't see that it's 'bizarre' that we sometimes feel the need to, for our own safety and wellbeing.
