Dry ginger ends

I have naturally dark brown hair that due to greying, I have a root touch up at the salon every 8 weeks. I have to use a Clairol touch up myself at 4 weeks. I've had highlighted foils a few times to help lift my hair and blend in the greys a bit more, but overtime my hair has become more balayage and I've not had the foils in for nearly 2 years. However, with now only having the roots touched up, my ends are becoming increasingly lighter (ginger and dry). Would it be easier to just dye my hair myself going forward as I'm not seeing any benefit from paying out £££ every 8 weeks. In an ideal world, I'd have more of an ashy lighter colour going through but is some hair more prone to red undertones and no matter what, I'd still end up with ginger ends?

I have similar hair and circumstances but less ginger, more just lighter from earlobe down to shoulders.

I’ve been using Glaze colour conditioner in chocolate brown, which makes the lighter bits darker and just glossier in general. It’s really a glorified ‘toner’ like from the 80s! But I’ve been quite pleased with the results as a holding solution until I decide what to do re foils etc.

It doesn’t cover greys so still need the old root touch up. It says it lasts 10 washes bit really is only about 5.

There are other similar on the market, I found this one via instagram.

They’re dead ends and the only fix is to cut them off
