Fat bird planning ahead for return to work: capsule wardrobe needed - help please?

OK, am working hard to lose blubber but anticipating returning to work shortly and in need of wardrobe advice.

Need a capsule wardrobe to make me look fabulous with the following requirements:

must not be all black but dark colours on bottom obv better! do not work in office job so would like to be relatively colourful/funky/fashionable but not mutton...

will need shoes and hair advice also: both must be practical (school run, no time to 'do), but must also be glamorous (eg medium length hair advice for fat face; slight heel but still need to walk to school...)

Am pear shaped so will need jacket-type stuff to give shape. Boobs still mahoosive though. Am size 16 but stomach kind of rules the show really, making trousers difficult.

don't really do knee length anything since calves awful

will need to BF at end of day and poss at lunchtime (so stretchy tops needed)

fabulous large bag to carry laptop and baby bits also please

any matching accessories

Not much to ask then? Shall I just call Gok instead?

Shoes tip - camper does boots and mary janes with a little heel, which is rubber, so they are super comfy. Also Clarkes is quite funky these days.

MrsBadger · 26/03/2008 11:58

will try and assist this pm, just getting this on the threads I;m on list

mitfordsisters · 26/03/2008 12:07

also... lovely bags in pvc prints - they haven't got photos on website yet, but will do soon. I have one with heaps of pockets - room for laptop and nappies etc - cost £45 and v stylish www.afxentiou.co.uk/

Monkeybird · 26/03/2008 14:25

thanks for the tips those pvc bags look lovely but am not in London and not sure I can wait till summer.

Campers looking promising - lots of heeled flats and wedges on their website

Any more tips?

How about good funky fitted jackets - anyone seen anything? (good god, I have no time to amble round shops with 3 kids...)

BTW what I meant about trousers being difficult was am size 16 round bum and boobs but post third baby stomach unfortunately makes finding trousers that fit difficult. Have to go up to 18-20 even though hipsters or maternity trousers in a 16 still fit. 18-20 though hang like a horrible hangy thing on my arse. Hipsters are no hope cos of the overhang and I CANNOT wear spanx to work, however vain I am (will lose all circulation)... Maybe I could alter them somehow?

yes, loving those camper wedges - quite expensive but hard wearing.

can you do long tunic tops with low slung belt sort of thing. Then wear a long fitted skirt with a flare at the bottom? monsoon is good for wellcut tops - nice fabrics etc.

dunno where you'd get a nice jacket but agree fitted blazers are lovely for making you feel smart and v 'on trend' now. then what do i know - i wear tights on my head

good luck with your shopping monkeybird

Sort out your underwear first.

Buy some good tummy flattening pants from M&S so that at least you know your tummy will stay in place for the day.

Obv you are BFing but make sure your boobs are well supported.

Will have a look and try and do some links.

Pannacotta · 26/03/2008 20:15

Agree on good underweatr, M&S have a good range called Body at the mo which is smooth lines, looks good under clothes, though no good for breastfeeding, try Anita underwired bras from Figleaves.
Look at Monsoon and Principles for long skirts, agree with mitfordsisters, try long and fitted with flare at the hem, good for balancing out tummy.
Also look at these places for jackets too, both on line so no need to trawl high st.
Also M&S Autograph and L Collection are both good at the mo.
Just bought myself some pretty and comfy Gabor flat ballet type pumps in metallic from House of Fraser, will try and find some links.

Nice skirts here

&

and good jacket, flattering cut here

Try H&M for tops, I find low scoop neck tunics in knitted cotton/viscose knit both flattering and easy to breastfeed in, they have various nice colours and they are not pricey so you can get a few to go with your skirts.

Pannacotta · 26/03/2008 20:23

And this is pretty too and the right kind of cut, with a frill at the hem
