What kinds of tops look good on busty middle aged women?

I have disproportionately big boobs. In my youth I always had a flat stomach and small waist, so my go-to was just fitted/tight t-shirts/tops - never really had to think about it. But now I'm middle aged, I'm stumped, as I don't want to wear clingy/tight tops any more, but baggy things don't look good because of the big boobs.
I'm a size 10, with 32E chest.
What do others wear?
TIA

Are you positive you’re a 32e? That isn’t big - lm thinking in a more supportive bra - you’ll be less restricted? :)
You won’t bounce out if you see what l mean? :)

Other than v-neck, none of those are suitable. Why add volume where you don't need it. No ties, frills, embellishments etc.

I try to stick with plain, slightly fitted, or draped, v's or scoops, good fabrics. I am a size 12 32HH so don't try to hide them honestly, cos I can't, but wear something that flatters and gives a waist and a shape. Wearing a good bra helps with back fat, so ribbed and shearing also a go-to

I think this really depends on other factors. If you have narrow shoulders, skinny arms and a big bust, then volume is really important to add balance. Without volume in the shoulders and sleeves, I feel like a droopy bag of boobs (even though I wear really good bras, which is my other top tip).

I think thicker fabrics and thinking about layers and structure is the key. Structure, texture, good underwear! And showing off slender features, e.g. tight trousers or skirts with thick black tights.

Shirts/blouses but with a vest top underneath so I can keep the top two or three buttons undone without flashing too much cleavage

This is what I do.^

@Amara123 the Sezanne blouse is beautiful, but the V neck is so deep, does the blouse cover the bra? Can’t tell from the model photos.

@Whiskersoff I’ve recently picked up that tip about volume in the shoulders and sleeves to balance the bust. Never really done that before, but am experimenting with a blouse with wider sleeves and a bit of shoulder padding. Have to see it in daylight before I can tell (it arrived just as it was getting dark)

This is a really interesting thread, thank you for starting it @OhFreedom

@Keepingongoing the v neck folds in a cunning way that covers the chest, it's not low necked and there's no bra showing whatsoever.
I'm a 36 F and it drapes well.

Honestly? Contemplating a reduction as nothing works - I’m not even overweight and I still have a waist but I’m short and nothing looks good.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/12/2024 15:29

Blazers do help me with emphasising the waist area and breaking up the boob area.

Happyinarcon · 14/12/2024 15:33

I have ordered a couple of shirts from GFW or Gender Free World. Most of their stuff is made in gender neutral fabrics which is disappointing, however they make shirts that cater for a small rib cage and a bigger bust, with extra fabric and extra buttons at the front. It was nice to finally be able to wear a decent button up shirt again and feel smart.

Pigeon31 · 14/12/2024 15:48

I like scoop neck tops, and high waisted skirt/ trousers with a belt.

lindyloo57 · 14/12/2024 16:26

Viyella did the long sleeved scoop neck tops double lined, and they did sleeveless ones, I still have some left after working there, ,they sometimes show up on ebay.

YourTurnForTheTree · 14/12/2024 16:35

I wear tops with ‘statement’ sleeves eg puffs to distract from the boobs! It works quite well.

YourTurnForTheTree · 14/12/2024 16:38

Being a 28GG I can only dream of being an E cup!

Thanks for the heads-up about Gender Free World, @Happyinarcon.

i always get a ton of compliments in batwing sweaters - but the ones that are tight on hips, not the wide ones hanging straight.

I love this blouse but I can't work out what it looks like if not tucked in - all the photos seem to show the model with an arm across the waist area and it's hard to work out if it can be worn untucked as well. Can anyone who's got one tell me what the lower section - i.e. the bit below the waist line - of the blouse is like? Thanks!

Runskiyoga · 15/12/2024 21:16

A good quality bolero cardigan with a well fitting but not tight tee works for me sometimes.

I also like a jersey blazer.

toooldforbrat · 15/12/2024 21:17

Just ordered a top and shirt from this site-

DecafDodger · 16/12/2024 07:11

BeQuickPlumOtter

you can find them on Vinted, it's straight and quite slim on the bottom.

I have this blouse and it can definitely be worn untucked, I wouldn’t wear it tucked personally as I think it would look bulky unless you’re very slim. The fabric is quite weighty (the green version, I think the purple is a different composition) so it hangs nicely. It’s pretty much cut straight down to the waist and the wrap part finishes at the side point about 6/7 inches, there’s no gaping like you sometimes get with wraps. I like Sezane but it’s so annoying that absolutely everything is tucked in! Wouldn’t be so bad if they just showed the item not on a model so you could clearly see the shape.

DecafDodger · 18/12/2024 10:28

Oh yes the Baukjen ones are good, I also have Spenser in several colours that I wear constantly.
