Thicker hair- anyone found something that works?!

specifically looking for something to help thicken hair/grow more new hair rather than just length I guess. My hair grows in length no problem, it’s just so so fine/thin. I’m 34 with no health issues. Always had fairly fine hair but during my 20s there was a period where it seemed to be almost twice as thick/had a lot more.
instagram is full of hair oiling,
microneedling, supplements, shampoos, but hard to know what is real and what is just marketing.
anyone real had results with something? Happy for it to take time, nothing happens overnight!
thanks

Were you on the pill when it was thick? My hair looked cracking when I was on the pill.

Shleepymummy · 04/03/2024 20:19

@Pepsimaxedout yes good point, I was. But had periods off the pill and it was still ok. You’re probably onto something there though 🫠

John Frieda thickening mousse is good, I use it to add volume.

Try taking Silica. My hairdresser noticed the difference!

Yeh, mine was great in my 20s when I was on it. Went really limp when I came off it to have kids in my 30s. My hair was amazing again when I was pregnant. Then has just been limp again since having the kids. I'm not wrecking my hormones all over again though just to have nice hair!

I use Plantur 39 shampoo and Nioxin thickening gel on mine. I'd had a horrible stressful year when my Dad was diagnosed terminally ill and my hair had really thinned as a result - I was nearly in tears at the hairdressers when going for a cut. I started on the Plantur 39 and I'd say it probably took around 3 to 4 months to really see an improvement and my hairdresser always uses Nioxin products. The gel is amazing as it's sticky when you put it in your hair but it dries soft and silky.

I am using the Philip Kingsley density range (shampoo, conditioner, spray and scalp drops) and I have noticed my hair has more volume. M&S sell it.

@Justwrong68 ah ok, I can give that a go. Thank you
@Wizzadorra70 sorry to hear about your Dad 🙁stress really plays a part doesn’t it and then you stress more when you can see your hair falling out etc.
Do you think the shampoo contributed to new hair growth/thickening or just helps its appear thicker? So when you stop using it you don’t have results. If that makes sense?!

Eating more protein was the biggest difference for me. Then massaging scalp - i think alot of the oiling benefit is actually just because you are massaging the scalp and increasing blood flow.
I've done a huge amount of research (and bought every product under the sun) and had a lot of regrowth focussing on these two things in the end. I'm currently trying LED light but too early to tell with that one.

Vitamin B super complex vitamins.
L'Occitane strength & volume shampoo.

Worked wonders for me. New regrowth noticeable after approx 8 weeks.

Wizzadorra70 · 04/03/2024 21:35

I think the Plantur gave me a lot more hair growth itself rather than thickening what's there.... I've got lots of really new baby hair all around my forehead that wasn't there before.

Nioxin is brilliant for thinning hair.

I like Living Proof Thickening Blow Dry Cream and Sam McKnight Cool Girl Superlift.

Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray is a wonder product. Spray on dry hair and bouff - expensive though.
