Feel like giving up with SPF under makeup

People say wear SPF every day but it makes my face so shiny and I end up trying to layer up makeup to mattify myself (which doesn't work anyway). It's raining all day every day how much sun damage am I really going to get? I'm from the generation that oiled up to sit on the beach with zero sun cream so it's all too little too late anyway right?
I have tried a few different ones but they are all shiny 😩

I've tried many & they all leave me slightly shiny. The biore spf50 one does soak in the best for me & is ok as a base for makeup.

I have learned to embrace the shine though tbh. I've started buying tinted SPF/skincare & not bothering with foundation

Some of the spray ones are ok, but I have doubts about how effective they are on top of make up. But in a pinch they'll do.

Honestly UV hads't gone over 1 for months, and how much time are you outside really?? It's bonkers to put it on every day through winter.

You can download an app which tells you the UBA/UBV rating where you are and decide if you want sunscreen on or not. The Beautypie one is really great under makeup and feels just like a good moisturiser

But people are saying it's the UVA that gets you, PP said it goes through clouds and glass and is there all year round.

My moisturiser contains SPF 20 I haven't noticed any shine. I agree with Joan Collins advice. Wear a big hat in the summer sunshine

This is correct, as regards ageing. UVA exposure also increases the risk of non-melanoma skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma/squamous cell carcinomas). Explanation here.

UV Radiation

Understand the basics about UV radiation and how it damages your skin, learn about the UV index and how to protect against skin cancer.

I have to use spf because I have roseacea. I use lrp then primer then makeup

Wear SPF in the UK when the daffodils come up. It means the UV is starting to increase.

Any sun damage is sun damage. Less damage is less wrinkles.

Garnier this one goes on ok under makeup

I've used Ultrasun face spf30 for years. Non oily and great as a base for foundation

BiliousOhGod · 01/03/2024 10:01

I use Ultrasun Anti-pigmentation spf50 as my day cream, moisturiser, SPF etc.. It goes on first and I let it sit for a few minutes before putting anything else on. If you use too much, it will pill. They also do an aerosol spf50, which is great on scalp, face (or your back if you're on your own and can't reach to rub in!), but it's not a 1-a-day application. It works out expensive to use.

The Nivea one is good
