Shop your wardrobe!!! Digging out neglected items…a thread to share successes!

Since Christmas I’ve been trying to ‘shop my wardrobe’ and wear things that have been neglected for far too long. The plan is that if I wear them for a day and they don’t feel good, I’ll ruthlessly get rid. So far I’ve ended up falling back in love with things I haven’t worn in a long time and haven’t got rid of anything! Today’s success was a blouse I’ve had at least ten years which I stopped wearing as it is a bit see-through and ‘difficult’, though I’ve always liked the neckline on it (high, lace edge). I layered it under a crew neck jumper today and it looked great - so it’ll be on rotation again!

Similarly I’ve worn some long suede boots recently which must be at least 15 years old. Through all the skinny jeans years I stopped wearing them as they felt like wellies over the skinny jeans, but I put them with a midi-length dress the other day and they looked right again.

I love clothes but am trying to reduce new purchases by getting more pleasure from the ones I already own. Anyone else managing to do this? I definitely couldn’t do the ‘no buy 2024’ thing, so this is my compromise effort!

On buying and selling, I have become an absolute demon for having an attack of conscience and selling things, then regretting it and buying them back on Vinted/eBay/Depop.. I've purchased a certain faux leopard coat (tacky but fabulous) 3 times now... once originally, twice from a reseller, due to regret (and the last time was an opportunity to go up a size..!)

I need to do an inventory as well

I've rearranged how I store my clothes, especially tops. I used to do everyday in one drawer , and decent in another drawer. I now store them according to warmth. I've been wearing my cashmere or merino jumpers instead of just shoving on a sweatshirt.

Today I am going to tackle my spring/summer stash in the eaves - we have a holiday planned at end of May and I’ve already started adding summer dresses to my basket but I need to see what I have first before I buy exactly what I already have!!! I figure I went away for a week last year so I must have everything I need for this year’s week away - well that’s what I’m telling myself but I’ve seen a gorgeous chartreuse satin halter neck midi with a split on line that would would be gorgeous for nights out in Italy 😂

Fight the urge, get all your summer/stuff out and try mix and matching and make some new outfits. I’ve started taking photos of new outfits I’ve created and/or that are ideal for a holiday and then refer to the photo when the to pack. I do it for general wear too, I can get lazy and just grab any top and bottom half out of the wardrobe but it’s amazing the difference adding the right bag or necklace etc makes. Having a photo really helps me.

I love rediscovering old things...makes me feel like a kid again! (poor upbringing with lots of female cousins so regularly got a giant binbag of hand me downs, which I absolutely loved!).😄
I am now finally getting into 15 yr old stuff from last time I lost lots of weight.
Mainly its hoodies and cargo pants coz I like what I like!LOL
But I do have 1 gem....a super comfy, flattering pair of wide legged jeans from Dorothy Perkins. Cant beat a decent pair of jeans!

I always get my spring/summer stuff out too early, I'm holding off or we will end up with another bout of snow :P

I saw some lovely leather blazers online and remembered that I had one lurking in a spare wardrobe that I hadn’t gotten around to ebaying. Welcome back to the fold 😘 I need a trying on session with greys and neutrals al la Massimo Dutti to make it ‘current’.
