Hi,

So I've really struggled to find a new hairdresser and it's been a couple of months now of a dry orangey balayage (nice 👍) and increasing grey roots. Against my naturally very dark brown hair, it's not a good look.

I can't seem to get in anywhere for weeks and I hate covering with powders, as it just feels greasy and only seems to cover a small percentage anyway.

I'm really tempted now to just do it myself. Only thing is, I have a semi to cover the greys and at the hairdresser, that seems to work, but when I've used semis at home in the past, they hardly touch them! I don't like the thought of permanent dyes and I'm pretty sure I had some hair loss once when I had a permanent dye, so it really put me off.

Anyway, wwyd in my situation? My hair is long, naturally quite curly/frizzy, so quite dry, as I also heat dry a couple of times a week.

TIA

Do a skin test if you are using a dark box dye, but tbh I'd do it myself if I couldn't get an appointment for ages. I've had expensive hair colours and box dyes and I couldn't really tell the difference. The exception being when I went blonde - I had that done at the hairdressers.

Can you not book in for a haircut anywhere, since that takes less time than a colour? If you could do that and get rid of any split ends etc so your hair is in decent shape, then you could dye it at home.

Middle ground - professional dye at home

Take your time picking a colour - if you're dark brown I wouldn't go any darker than a 4 and decide what tone you want - whichever brand you go for will have a colour chart that shows all the options.

I do my roots every 7/8 weeks & my hair is in good condition.
