All my clothes have holes in/have sagged horribly. I need to replace some beloved items but can't find the right things. Can anyone help me find the right basics?

V neck strappy bodysuits - not like slimming ones or anything. I have two and have worn them to death as vests under everything over the past few years. I seem to now only be able to find ones that are for holding in under stuff.

Flattering long sleeve t shirts. I dont like the boxy breton type things. They look stylish but dont look good on me. I'm looking for sort figure huggingish (?) type ones.

Long sleeve cropped v neck t shirts. I have two of these in.white and black.from topshop 8 or so years ago. They are now really pretty grim looking but are the perfect thing with a super high waist trouser. Desperate to find these again somehow.

A stylish looking chunky short cardi

An elegant looking long cardi.

Thank you!

We all have items we love but Rather than replace old, probably out dated items, why don’t you think about updating your style?

TheOriginalFrench · 28/02/2024 03:43

Hmm … Grin

I don’t think you’ll have much difficulty finding those items - but I do think you’re maybe going about things the wrong way. Places like:

American Vintage
Cos
Massimo Dutti
Raey @ Matches
Skims
Uniqlo
Zara

have all manner of t shirts, tops and cardigans. Rather than prescribing which shapes you are looking for - why not browse their sites and see what they have? Proportions change over time - so if you don’t find the exact shape you think you want in mainstream contemporary shops it’s because those shapes aren’t currently fashionable.

BTW, Topshop still ‘exists’ via ASOS:

https://www.asos.com/topshop/

I bought something at the end of last year out of sheer nostalgia. Looked lovely on screen; quality was so crap my family actually pointed and laughed …

This is interesting insight thank you. I am a complete style novice so maybe I need to rethink. But I thought the general mantra to go with what suited you rather than whats up to date?

What general mantra? Why on earth should it be impossible to do both at the same time? Grin

Think of it this way: you’re living in 2024 - so unless you’re some sort of determined historical costume aficionado, why would you want to buy clothes from some other era? Obviously we all wear what’s in our wardrobes, but we can stay vaguely up to date without even trying because things have to be replaced.

You’re not a style novice - clearly. And if you were capable of finding clothes you liked, that suited you and your lifestyle eight years ago in Top Shop, you’re perfectly capable of finding excellent new clothes that work for you and your life now from all the millions of contemporary options available.

Just because anonymous people on the internet create false dichotomies to sound wise - it doesn’t mean you have to listen to them!

Ok sorry. I just meant I dont find shopping very easy. Im not trying to find clothes from another era its just I thought those things suited me so was trying to find vaguely the same thing again. My life now is pretty much the same as it was then apart from working more from home so having less opportunity to shop IRL I suppose. There is so much available its hard to know where to find things. Your list of shops is really helpful thank you.
