Day moisturiser for dry skin

I'm lost! Help!
I need a thick, nourishing day cream that actually works.
I think I'm looking for an emollient really that I can put makeup on top of.
I've found they're either to watery or so greasy that makeup just slips off.
I've tried cheap and expensive and all of them make my face feel tight by the afternoon.
Has anyone found anything they can recommend or am I looking for the holy grail?

My budget isn't huge either, max £25

I started using Embroylisse Lait-Creme concentre back in October and this is the first winter I've not had to battle eczema on my face, it's fab for under make up too.

Do you use a serum before your moisturiser? I find that makes a huge difference to how long feeling moisturised lasts.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 22/02/2024 18:41

@ItsMintUpNorth oooh thank you. I've never heard of that. Looks very good. Does it leave a film on the skin or does it sink completely in?

@TheFlis I do use a serum but they're so expensive (no 7) I haven't bought anymore. Have you found a cheapy one that works?

Try googling Sali Hughes. She has dry skin and is always on the lookout for good products for it. She's good at covering a range of budgets too.
Personally I like Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream. I buy professional sizes on eBay; works out a lot cheaper than commercial sizes.

I’m currently using an Avon Anew one randomly that was given to me by my MIL. I have used loads of different ones and found the Aldi own decent enough to be honest.

Aldi Lacura Q10 multi-intensive serum with hyaluronic acid is the best I’ve found and an incredible price. I prefer their Lacura Rejuvelate SPF30 day cream to any of the expensive ones too. Currently working through No 7 Future Renew day and night creams and I really dislike the day cream.

I’m late 60s and don’t wear make up.

Not a day cream but I'm loving Aveeno oat gel moisturiser

TrulyScrumptiousTS · 22/02/2024 19:03

I bought Revolution miracle cream for this very reason and I love it

It's thick, nourishing and sinks in nicely and keeps my skin more supple

So am I!! I'm using the night cream but am going to get the gel one tomorrow as I am getting on so well with it.

I usually use CeraVe PM cream.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 22/02/2024 19:17

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor it's a lovely moisturiser, no greasy residue and hydrates well.
Had a cold and my nose was so dry and sore yet this didn't sting at all unlike others and sorted the dryness really quickly.

La Roche-Posay Nutritic Intense Rich is amazing for my dry skin. Their Cicaplast Balm is great too

PastTheGin · 23/02/2024 20:02

I really like the UpCircle moisturiser. Their coffee serum and night cream are fab, too. My usually very dry skin is very happy!

Saxendi · 23/02/2024 20:12

This one is excellent, strongly recommend it!

Weleda skin food moisturiser is great for dry skin. It's thick and nourishing so meets your description. Also not expensive, about £9.

Have you tried creating a moisture sandwich by using a face mist? You can use something very simple like Avene spring water, or Superdrug do some nice ones with added ingredients. I spritz, apply The Ordinary Matrixyl & HA serum (£10), spritz again and apply the Weleda moisturiser. It really helps lock in moisture.
