I really need some ideas for what to wear to a wedding next week. I’ve just had a baby so still carrying baby weight and none of my nice dresses fit me, I have no idea what might look good on my current shape and at this time of year and I’m struggling to get into town to look in the shops with an newborn. Any suggestions welcome please! I’m 5 ft 5 and currently still look about 6 months pregnant 😥

Are you breastfeeding? What size roughly do you think you are, and what colours suit you?

Overthebow · 21/02/2024 23:30

No not breastfeeding so no problems there. I’m probably a size 16 at the moment, I have no idea what suits me anymore but I’ve got dark hair and I know yellow looks bad on me.

Something 'empire line' will flair from under the bust and skim over any residual baby bump. Velvet material absorbs light and is more flattering than something shiny. I haven't been shopping in ages, so don't have examples, but it might be something you could start searching for.

What about a shirred waist style?
Something like this..

Wrap dress to skim over your stomach.

MissingMoominMamma · 22/02/2024 05:13

That ASOS dress is gorgeous, but sold out.

Rina66 · 22/02/2024 09:06

This is a similar style to the ASOS dress, it has abstract hearts which are quite appropriate...

I think the wrap or empire line is a good suggestion. I'd go for a pattern rather than something like plain coloured satin then it will disguise any lumps n bumps you don't want on display. There's a few floaty type fabric ones on Yumi that might suit: Ladies Wedding Guest Dresses & Jumpsuits | Yumi

Start out by thinking about what you want to accentuate rather than hide. Sometimes empire line can make you look more tummyish, depending on how they fall.

The more you accentuate your best attributes the more you draw attention away from other areas you don't want to draw attention to.

This could be good as the bow can cover your waist. Comes in several colours:

Simple and classic, beautiful colours here:

Slightly empire line, and a nice dark base colour with pattern to distract:

Good luck! xx
