Do you have or had milia and how did you get rid of it? Ruining my confidence

I've had milia under my eyes, quite severe for a few years but TTC and having a baby has prevented me from treatment.

I'm booked to have cryotherapy tomorrow and really hoping this works so I'm wondering if anyone has had anything similar and what worked for you?

Are you sure that’s milia? Milia looks very different and rarely presents like that.

I get them from time to time and either remove myself if it’s at skin level or via electrolysis if deep. But that’s with actual milia spots, which I’m not sure yours are. I’m not a dermatologist though!

fournaansjeremy · 20/02/2024 09:57

That doesn't look like milia. Milia is quite easy to remove.

Have you been to A dermatologist?

BusterGonad · 20/02/2024 10:09

Agreed, that doesn't look like mila to me.

Tanaqui · 20/02/2024 10:12

That looks a bit like cholesterol deposits - do you have high cholesterol? If you don't know, a test might be a good idea.

I was just about to add this to the thread.

HoweverWeare · 20/02/2024 10:24

I agree, that doesn’t look like milia - I think it looks like cholesterol deposits as well.

I had milia removed in a clinic and it was fine. Left a red spot for a time but then went away and healed quickly. I think they use electric one though. They also zapped a few small skin tags and any minor skin imperfections. It was about 20 minutes and I had red spots for a few days. The milia occasionally return but not in the same place.

skinwoes1 · 20/02/2024 10:49

I've had it since I was 17 and I'm now 30 and it's just getting worse, I've had cholesterol tested in the past and all was fine. Thanks everyone!

It could also just be the glands under your skin. The skin under your eye is thin, so it’s more transparent and therefore would reveal the glands.

But I wouldn’t get cryotherapy without confirmation that it’s milia, as not only is it not cheap and therefore a waste of money, it could potentially cause more damage than good.

Tippexy · 20/02/2024 11:02

That isn’t milia, and I would be wary of going to any clinic that is claiming to treat it as such. Could you spend the money on an appointment with a private dermatologist instead?

Fraaahnces · 20/02/2024 11:24

I would use a retinol eye cream and see if it sort it out. Maybe see a derm. (Beauty of Joseon eye cream is the best retinal (closest to prescription strength) that I have discovered.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 20/02/2024 11:31

I think those look like syringoma. If they are that (and a good derm can diagnose them) then the options are CO2 laser or some type of radio frequency like Agnes RF.

Using tretinoin and salicylic acid can help according to my dermatologist, but this didn't get rid of it for me. Maybe minimised it a bit.

iwannacoolrider · 20/02/2024 11:50

I used to have this, I had electrolysis to get rid of them (can't remember what the dermatologist said they were called now but it wasn't milia like I presumed)
I'd had them for years.. It cost around £200, it didn't get rid of them completely more 85%.
This was 2 years ago and they haven't come back yet.

ChilliPB · 20/02/2024 12:57

I think they are syringoma as @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 said. Under the eyes are a common place to get them.

NCForQuestions · 20/02/2024 13:00

That's definitely not milia. I have had milia under the eye and on my eyelid but they look and feel like hard little balls.

Definitely see a dermatologist about that if it's bothering you. Treatment may not be as expensive as you think.

Where do you buy that from @Fraaahnces as I have seen something selling on Amazon that is denounced as a fake.

OooScotland · 20/02/2024 23:25

I agree with everyone saying ‘I’m not an expert but that’s not Milia’.

Why do you think it is?

I’d see a dermatologist if I were you. I struggled with something under my eyes that looked almost exactly like that for about ten years and no skincare or home treatment would shift it.

I had a consultation with a private derm and it turns out I have flat warts. Very common, apparently, but never talked about. Please don’t get any treatment for milia if you’re not 100% that’s what it is.

Fraaahnces · 21/02/2024 13:45

@JoanThursday1972 - I buy mine from Stylevana. Also check out YesStyle and StyleKorean. It’s always on sale somewhere.

CatchAButterfly · 22/02/2024 12:08

Did you have the treatment done OP?

skinwoes1 · 23/02/2024 08:51

I had the treatment done and she did mention a couple of other things they could be (cryotherapy can also get rid of these) what PP's have suggested.

I checked my medical records on NHS app and actually found my blood test results from November when I had a full screen done and my cholesterol was in the normal range.

She would only do a very small section at a time, it's not painful now but did feel like it burned for half hour after treatment. She said I will probably need a few treatments.

If this doesn't work, I will ask GP for a referral to dermatologist.

Can I ask how much it cost to see a dermatologist and how you went about finding one? I have a milia on my eyelid that’s been there years and really bothers me plus a skin tag under my eye. Would be amazing to sort them.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 03/04/2025 10:36

@skinwoes1i just wondered how the treatment went and did you have the Cryopen?

Cucy · 05/04/2025 17:43

I’ve just stumbled across this too.
I have similar and I think it’s syringoma but can’t seem to find anywhere that treats it.

How did you get on OP?

marmiteandminticecream · 06/04/2025 06:43

how do you remove milia i'd love to get rid of mine

skinwoes1 · 05/05/2025 19:57

Hi everyone sorry long time without an update, cryotherapy didn’t work. Instead I’ve been having them manually removed (small area at a time) pricked with a small sharp sterile needle and then pushed out by a professional. I’m not sure what the price breakdown is as I’m having it done at the same time after a facial with dermaplaning once a month. They are slowly but surely clearing!
