Ways to prevent creases when packing clothes.

Going on a cruise soon, so no ironing facilities as not allowed onboard.

I have a few linen dresses which will crease when folded up. I am flying long haul and will unpack as soon as I can, but I'm not sure what is the best way to prevent as much creasing as possible.

I'd ideally like to avoid crease release sprays. Is acid free paper the only solution?

Can you take a steamer or is that not allowed either?

EveryOtherNameTaken · 16/02/2024 13:16

I always roll my clothes rather than fold. Helps a lot to prevent creasing. Could you get a travel steamer? I have one and it's one of the best things I've bought. It's so quick and really practical to use. They are cheap and small too.

I just Googled,no steamers either. Roll and then blast with the hair dryer?

MrsDrakeRamoray · 16/02/2024 13:17

No travel steamers allowed on this cruise line :(

Hang up in the bathroom while you take a shower as a last resort?

EveryOtherNameTaken · 16/02/2024 13:23

Take a spray bottle, spritz it, run your hands over it.

At least everyone will look creased 😂

Blacknailer · 16/02/2024 14:49

I wouldn't take the linen!
Otherwise, my tip is to lay out all the clothes unfolded and stack them with those that crease at the bottom and any jumpers etc at the top. Then roll/fold so that the linen is the outside layers and is wrapped around everything else. End up with one big roll that you put in the suitcase.
Helps me on work trips.

I pack linen dresses or creasable blouses last, still on their hangers, and covered with a large plastic or poly bag.
Then hang the items in the bathroom while showering.
Cabin housekeeping staff might provide help if something still needs pressed or steamed.

Ducksinthebath · 16/02/2024 15:22

I wonder why they don't allow irons or steamers.

idontlikealdi · 16/02/2024 15:22

Roll.

What sort of cruise doesn't allow an iron, i'm intrigued?!

All of them :)

Some cruise lines have laundry rooms which have irons for use

Look on You Tube for packing "hacks". We had to travel to Italy for a wedding so had to pack a suit for him and a few dresses for myself and we got there relatively wrinkle free - hanging them up and giving them a steam in the bathroom sorted out the worse

danceswithlawnmowers · 16/02/2024 17:41

Won't there be some kind of laundry service on board? Just send your linen to be pressed when you unpack

BangingOn · 16/02/2024 20:58

Pack a bottle of crease remover spray, spritz and then hang in the bathroom whilst running and steamy shower.

LynetteScavo · 16/02/2024 21:25

Which cruise line is it? Are you sure there isn't a laundry with an iron you can use? I took a steamer on the cruise I went on

Royal Caribbean.

Might just have to fork out pay for the pressing service...

Ah, then unfortunately I think you are going to have to pay for the ironing service, or rethink what you pack. I wear linen for work and the the summer and come home looking a crinkled mess Grin

Thelightis · 17/02/2024 10:51

Roll them up

CherryRipe1 · 17/02/2024 11:44

Are you allowed to take hair straighteners? My flight attendant friend used these to 'iron' out creases.

AndSoFinally · 17/02/2024 12:38

Yep, hair straighteners work really well. Not sure how easy it would be to a dress, but great for sleeves and trousers legs

bingohandjob · 17/02/2024 13:06

Budget in the cost of getting your items pressed on arrival. Include a decent tip to go straight into the hand of the person doing it if you can.
