now that it’s available in the UK was wondering if any MN’ers have tried it and if so what do you think?

I tried the cold shot but it made my hair stick out with static so won’t be doing that again.

Here's my review with colour treated ,damaged , thin wavy hair type :
U can see it in use too Thought I would give a bit of an unbiased feedback after my first use of my self purchased Dyson Airstait .
Similar to everyone else , I pressed the order button with shaky hands ,after months of waiting since its initial drop in the US ,not knowing if it will worth the hype and hefty price tag .
Tonight was the night when I finally ripped that box open ,and sat down with high hopes and wet hair .
The box contains a brief but clear and informative user manual , a heat mat , warranty sheet , safety instructions and the device .The only negative I have to mention is ,Dyson not including a dust bag ,or something to store and protect such bulky device with a rather large plug.
When you provide luxury product , make the experience full .The least you want to do for your customers ,is include a nice pouch to keep their device dust and scratch free.
To operate it is super easy , and the device itself is much lighter to hold than I have expected.
First I have dried my roots with the device locked operated as a hair dryer ,than I dried my lengths with plates on higher heat setting ,than I locked in my smooth and silky hair with going over it with the plates on cold setting .
I was done so fast I couldn't believe it .As someone who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia this is a massively positive aspect .
My main worry ,which was my hair not turning out smooth enough has rapidly melted away as I was left with incredibly soft, frizz free and perfectly straight hair .
If you were hesitant about spending out , this is your sign to say YES .💇‍♀️

Just an update on this. I have the airstrait a month now. I have used it approx six times. I have noticed a lot of shedding since I started to use it. A worrying amount which is why I have used it on average 1.5 times a week.
I don't get sleek straight hair after using it.

In fact, after I last used it, I met up with a friend and mentioned I had bought it. She asked me if I had used it. I had just spent twenty to thirty minutes using it so it obviously didn't look very different but I have really frizzy type hair which has always been difficult. There is probably a natural wave which manifests as frizz.

Anything helps with it and the airstrait helps too. However, I am really really concerned about the hair loss. Today when I was looking in the mirror, I pulled a loose hair off my jumper. I realised I have been pulling hairs off my woollen jumpers all week. I am now wondering if there was a lot of loose hair last week too but I didn't notice because I wasn't wearing a material that the hairs would cling to.

I am really tempted by this, but won’t buy it while it has the ridiculous plug. They should have sorted that first before rushing it out. I’ve taken my air wrap with me on trips in this country, that plug would put me off packing this one. If you could use it abroad this would be perfect for me to take on holiday. I wish someone would come up with something decent for those of us who don’t have hair that nicely air dries.

I watched the Sali Hughes video a while back, I think the product being designed as it is to be used as a dryer on the roots is a good solution personally. I have a Dyson dryer but hardly use it as I’m happy with the air wrap dryer. I have a lot of hair, I tend to section it in 3 parts horizontally to dry it, I think it would be great for me but will wait for a refined version or even the Shark copy.

SpringFishing · 15/03/2024 13:26

Drying the roots with it has been surprisingly ok and I have a lot of hair. I used it on my daughters very long, curly/wavy hair this week and it was great although we did run straighteners over it after as there were lots of flyaways.

I’m away next weekend so will be taking an extension cord just in case the hotel sockets can’t accommodate the ridiculous plug. I’m getting used to it and have cut my styling time from the initial 30 mins to 20. It’s quite literally the best thing I’ve ever bought and I keep fantasising about being able to time travel back to my teenage years with it when poufy hair was unsolvable (predates straighteners existing).

Getorganized · 08/04/2024 13:03

How's everyone getting on with the airstrait?! I'm so tempted. I also hate the plug but read its a safety thing...

Does it really smooth the hair like a straightener? That's mainly what I use mine for. Rough dry then smooth and straighten out kinks. If if straightens but doesn't smooth down the hair and give it that shiny look I'm not interested. Appreciate any more views!

MorrisZapp · 08/04/2024 13:12

Does your hair have to be almost dry before you airstrait it? Or can it be towel dry?

MorrisZapp · 08/04/2024 13:15

It's just such a hard choice to make at that price. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I truly believed the claims, but a lifetime of product regret holds me back.

OkayKinkade · 08/04/2024 13:18

Trinny just bought one and sent it back. Story is on her insta. She said it made her hair ridiculously dry and I have to say, it did look pretty knackered after she used it.

Wet! That's the point

NellyCortado · 08/04/2024 14:34

Tempted! I have the Airwrap and not convinced by it. Finding it very awkward to hold.

KeeeeeepDancing · 08/04/2024 14:41

No issues with using an extension socket. It has a RCD so it trips itself if there is any issue.

Yes you can use it on wet hair.

As much as a game changer, market mover as the original GHDs were.
Simply amazing. Horrendously expensive though. They deserve it to be reverse engineered and copied.

Carebear30 · 08/04/2024 16:06

I have absolutely fried my hair with bleaching hence I dyed it darker and bought the airstrait to save some of the heat treatment time ,and I love mine , leaves my hair silky smooth even in wind and humidity.

I was convinced not to buy the air wrap by my hairdresser who said it curls but it doesn't give you the glossy blow dried look you only really get with a proper blow dry or going over your hair with a straightener.

If you buy direct from Dyson you can send it back if you don’t like it within 30ish days.

I saw her talking to the hairdresser and I think her hairdresser said that if you want poker straight hair it's ok but that poker straight hair isn't for Trinny, she looks better with a bit of volume. Although he did say he didn't know a lot about them.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 09/04/2024 15:58

Is there a cheaper version/brand?

Not yet! Give it a few months for some reverse engineering and there is bound to be

OnHerSolidFoundations · 09/04/2024 19:56

It's just ridiculous. But hey, that's Dyson.

I have one and my hair looks like Trinny’s after using it. Mine is naturally dry but not from sun or pool water.

It definitely isn’t glossy or smooth but it is better than what I can achieve with just a brush and (decent) hairdryer.

There was loads of volume but it just looked like a giant haystack really. (Not being mean, love Trinny, gorgeous hair usually but the Dyson really didn't do a good job).

I agree.
Mine gives me the haystack look too. Which, as I don’t have a daily hairdresser , like Trinny does, the haystack look is better than I achieve myself with a brush. Not a great finished look though to be fair….

I am very tempted to buy one. Does anyone know how it compares to the ghd Duet 2 in 1 (which is a bit cheaper)?

@Bringtheweatherwithyou if your hair is actually shedding and not breaking then that's probably not heat damage from a styling tool.

Nomechange1 · 15/05/2024 17:18

I tried this in John Lewis and have decided not to buy it for two reasons.

It does not give you the sleek smooth shiny look you get from a proper blow dry or straighteners.

And you can't use it to even gently wave your hair - so I use my straighteners to straighten and smooth and then use it to wave the front sections and fringe of my hair, occasionally round the sides and back to. This product won't do this, meaning I'd need to keep my straighteners.

So all in all not worth it for me.

Tempted my the ghd duet though if it does this above!
