How to look less mumsy! (meeting the ex))

Meeting my ex for dinner. It's been a few years now and whilst my face looks decent, I've put on a stone (or more!).

Although we were never suited/amicable, there is a part of me that wants to look casual but amazing as im out with someone of the opposite sex after years! I've really lost interest in my looks for the last few years so have just worn slightly baggy trousers and tight tops/big coats even though most say my legs are nice. My hair is greying and I really feel like I look mumsy/hide myself away. He was always in great shape but I was a mum who looked really stylish at the time. Now I'm just not! (blaming peri menopause here).

Any ideas for clothing? I'm a curvy size 16, busty 38GG, tallish so thought just something like this which i have already but never wore. Does the top look too casual? Or else, a cut out top with a skirt/jeans? I'm conscious about my stomach!

I have several of these satin skirts and always feel very put together and effortless in them OP. I maybe wouldn't wear the jumper for a dinner though.

I'm inclined to agree with not letting him back in, but I get the need for confidence. Equally, I wouldn't buy new clothes just for this at least hair and any grooming will play out in any aspect of your life. So, I'd focus on making this an outfit that really works for you and could make you feel good in any situation.

If you look on the website, you can see how they style it with trainers in other colours. Actually, they style it better in the long version https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/tall-black-satin-bias-midi-skirt/p/886685401 either the blue with a cross bag and a white teeshirt to break up the colour, or maybe the black with a jacket and teeshirt. I'd take some inspiration from there.

A finer knit would look better than chunk jumper.

No I'm not buying anything and I do like casual looks. The only big thing I'm doing is dying my hair. My hair is my crowning glory but I resemble a badger at present

Sorry if I missed the timing on this.. when are you meeting him?

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle surely you’d have to do some sort of tucking with this skirt?

Depends on the top- full tuck or none but the "French tuck" just looks daft as if you can't dress yourself properly.
