Earrings help

I'd like to start wearing earrings again after a few years off due to having babies / lockdown / general lack of self care. I've got 2 piercings on each earlobe and one cartilage piercing. None of them have closed up which is great.

I've just turned 40 and work in a fairly casual office. My clothing style is not very fashionable, think skinny jeans and a chunky jumper with Chelsea boots. I like silver/white gold generally. Looking for recommendations for everyday grownup earring styles as I don't know where to start!

Also should I put something in the cartilage piercing or is that too try-hard at 40?

I say wear something in your cartilage piercing! I don’t think it’ll look try hard at all. Go for it!

Thanks for replying - you are right, I think I will.

Just giving this thread a hopeful little bump...

I’m in my 40s and I’ve had my faith and tragus pierced in recent years. I’m a healthcare professional and no-one has ever really commented on those except I had a little bee one for my tragus which a colleague complimented.
There’s a nice selection of earrings (both lobes and alternative/cartilage piercings) on the piercing mania website, quite reasonable prices and you can buy quality stuff (not just cheap stuff that will turn green!).

Astrid and Miyu jewellery is good quality and works well if you have several piercings.

And if you want to put something in your cartilage piercing, you definitely should!

I had a few years off wearing earring having previously worn them all the time and slept in them- even dangly ones! . Went I went back to wearing them I found I could push the earring in but it was sore and uncomfortable

I posted on here and got great advice. I called the piercing shop and went and had two flat back plain gold coloured surgical steel labrets in both my lobes and paid to have them fitted with a taper to slightly enlarge the hole. They with fit cartilage piercing too.

I've had the plain labrets in for 5 weeks now and can take them out and clean them and they are in no way sore. They were for a day or so.

Labrets are so much more comfortable

Some great suggestions of where to buy earrings, thank you!

I've put inexpensive (but not rubbish) earrings in all of the holes to see how they feel for a couple of weeks before spending any money on new earrings.

One of the earlobe holes is a little bit sore (although looks fine and was easy enough to get the earring in) so it if doesn't settle @cherrypickles that's a great tip to see what a piercing shop can do to help - the original piercing was done in Clare's Accessories in the early noughties, so frankly it's a miracle that I've got this far without incident!

I mostly wear stainless steel earrings now for every day use. They are much better quality than plated ones and still cheap enough I won't mind if I lose one. Mine are mostly from Solace Jewellery, they are allergy safe as well.

Silver Rain Silver on Etsy. Labrets or huggie hoops. Late 30s... I have 5 piercings in one ear. Pretty and coordinated. Rarely change them unless its main lobe for dressy earrings
