in search of the perfect white linen shirt

I'm looking for a perfect white linen shirt, soft, and machine washable please. Last year I had an inexpensive one from H&M which was great, but a little stiff. I don't want to spend a fortune as I'm going to wear it over a bikini like a cover up, for breakfast, lunch etc, and I don't want to get upset when I get suncream all over it (hence I can't wear the one I bought last year as it is v stained). I could order a new one from H&M but thought I would see if there is anything better that anyone would recommend please? Thank you 😊

These khaki leather Supergas are an absolute bargain in the sale and still available in lots of sizes. Would go beautifully with your khaki jacket and either of the trouser options. Would pair well with navy or lots of colours too - khaki is a brilliant summer neutral.

i have several pairs of Supergas and find them very comfortable. I’m a 40-41 but always a 40 in Superga

I absolutely love the Lani sandals! for the eves though - I don't think I could walk in these for long. Am going to order these! The style that Lottie are don't tend to suit me, straight across by the toes, and Linnie are just a bit off the mark but I don't want to sound negative because you are just brilliant at this!

I feel like I could have bought the entire contents of my suitcase by the end of tomorrow! But, I need to take it slow - I've created bookmarks in a new folder for all these ideas so that I can make a plan like another thread I saw here - can't remember what it was, but it was about planning and making careful considered choices :)

I love Supergas too! these khaki ones are perfect! I think I'm going to need some interesting/print t shirts to add a bit of interest to the outfits?

T shirts can wait until there are more in the stores.

Maybe an American Vintage vest or two..

@MakemineaGandT Good morning! I've just ordered the Supergas and also the linen trousers, (& a £6.99 vest top from H&M too). I love the eyelet white shirt, but on principle I don't order from anywhere that doesn't offer free returns! (Am I being silly over that?). Thank you so much for your suggestions!!

I have a discount for use in a Me&Em store, so will go in store to try the trousers, and while I'm using my discount will look at the dress and other things too.

I'm going to try really hard to work out outfits with what I already have - there's no rush as we don't go until much later in the year.

Re the TK Maxx potential order - you can return for free (within a month) in any tk Maxx store. I tend to order £100 worth (for free delivery) or £50 for in-store collection, then return to store. If you do in-store collection you can try on there and then and return immediately what you don’t want!

That's good to know about TKMaxx. I'll check where my nearest store is! I always try to maximise discounts/free delivery situations etc :)

I also use the browser add on 'honey', and earn points for shopping which I exchange for Amazon vouchers.

This should be a thread by itself full of my wardrobe challenges! Following a thread I read a few weeks ago which might even now be a classic, 'in pursuit..' or something like that, I'm trying to focus on events and pull my wardrobe together rather than just shopping randomly and buying items to put in the wardrobe so I'm trying to be very coordinated. I have a ridiculous amount of clothes but somehow I never have anything to wear. I'm also putting things on Vinted every few weeks so that's giving me more space plus more £ towards the new more considered pieces!

A weekend in Ibiza for a 50th end of May. Something fab, but not OTT, not too boho, (or too young, no cutoff denim bum-cheek-showing shorts!), but something I can wear that looks effortless for drinks at the bar to beach club restaurants...?

I know I'm very lucky with some fabulous trips this year and am truly grateful :)

And OP - is the thread you mention about making considered purchases this one? I love that thread and have used its advice to completely sort out my wardrobe over the last couple of years. I tend to buy in sales but I have a running list on my phone of items I’m looking for and when I see them on sale I snap them up. At the moment, for example, I have eyes open for a cream or white silk shirt, tan heeled knee length boots and a slouchy black leather handbag. All would be expensive at full price, and I don’t need them urgently, but when they cross my path at a decent price I shall get them!

Yes! That is the thread! I bought 2 lovely cashmere scarves in the sales, one in dark green, and one in mustard, to make my outfits more coordinated when I use my green or mustard handbags, and have been much more thoughtful when shopping. Although am laughing that it isn't yet 9am and we are both online shopping already!

I do love the Me & Em dress, thank you, but I really like sleeveless when abroad if poss, and this year not so loving their halter neck dresses. It is definitely something I'll try when I go to the store. I can't go this weekend, but maybe the following.. I think I wish I could pull off some of the things Millie Macintosh wears for holiday evenings, but I would def look OTT, and obv not as skinny!

@MakemineaGandT have you tried Bicester for your wishlist? Most of the stores there sell by catalogue on Whatsapp and I've had some great finds that way.

I've got a great ivory satin silky blouse (not from Bicester), from Zadig & Voltaire, that I would recommend. Washable, which is a plus. I bought it a couple of years ago but it might be in their Bicester store now. They run it every season in diff colours. I'll try to link it. A definite good staple for my wardrobe.
(I bought it in Europe when it was on sale, it is eye-wateringly expensive..)

@MakemineaGandT me too, I really need to start focusing on work! Actually if you do the whole 'cost per wear' thing for that blouse, the fact that it goes in the machine makes it practically free. Try Whatsapping the Bicester branch. They don't always have all their stock in the virtual catalogue. Best time to buy from Z&V is in Europe, when it is their 'private sale'.. time to plan a trip ;)

Hi @bananasaredelicious ! Sorry for my delayed reply - been busy all weekend and distracted! How’s the hunt for gorgeous things going? Sorry to hear the Ganni dress didn’t work out - it is quite large on the shoulders and even the model doesn’t look quite right in it imho…

I’m hoping lots more summer options will be hitting the shops soon, it’s still quite early. Keep us updated! X

@MakemineaGandT updating you re the deliveries:

The linen trousers are sadly just too wide and swamp me so they need to go back. I'm guessing I'll find some easily enough coming up to spring/summer. There are a lot on the M&S website, so maybe I'll take a trip to the local M&S and try some on there. Hopefully they will be machine washable from there too.

The cheap ribbed vest top I ordered at the same time from H&M is surprisingly lovely and I'll definitely get more the same as it will be a good staple for my trip.
