I need some help here...

I have always been around a size 16 or 18, and I am OK with that.

However, I have recently put on a bit load of weight (which I intend to shed, pronto); and I feel and look like shit. I still wear the same size, but I am bulging a bit. (god, I am cringing at writing this but I am really feeling low.)

I need a quick fix -- none of my clothes look right. What sort of stuff should I wear: long & flowy to cover, or does that make it look like I am wearing a tent? what? help!!

Hi there,

Have you had a look at any of the online sites that stock larger sizes?

This site has some pretty dresses on it. Even if you don't find anything you want to buy it might give you some ideas as to what suits your figure.

If you are going to lose the weight pronto, then for a quick fix I'd get a cardigan or two (God that sounds foxy, doesn't it!). It'll cover you up until you feel less bulgy! Something that has a fitted shape but isn't clingy would be best. Or you could get a couple of new tops to tide you over - the ones that are fitted over the bust and loose underneath would be best as these give you some shape. You're right about avoiding tents - these will make you look 4 sizes bigger and make you feel enormous.

And I do know what I am talking about - I'm the same sort of size myself, and having just lost a bit recently I'm wearing more figure hugging stuff and leaving the cardigans in the wardrobe.

Agree - you want stuff that skims over the bulges, but definitely don't buy tents. Have you got a good bra? If not, go and get fitted properly - Rigby & Peller if you can, Bravissimo if you can't and you're more than a D cup. Will make a world of difference.

Thanks very much indeed, ladies!

Bought 2 cheapie looser tops at Tesco (gasp! but they're OK), and am keeping an eye out for some nice cardis.

Hadn't thought of wearing dresses. Any tips/links greatly appreciated.

PS got some new contact lenses and feel slightly better now.

How about some smoothing knickers that come up to boob level.. Again, not the most glamorous of garments but will make your current clothes fit a little better until you fit them a little better!

oregonianabroad · 22/03/2008 15:31

Good idea, Maidamess. Haven't had any of them since I was single and on the pull. Any brand names to choose from?

SPANX - they are brilliant they even have a pee hole so you don't have to tackle them to go for a wee!!!

oregonianabroad · 22/03/2008 15:38

I wore those for my wedding but I didn't know they sold them here!

Mind you I couldn't breathe.

The ones I have are like really thick tights that go up to my boobs (not over) and to half way down my thighs..

Wearing them I get into my size 14 trousers without them I definately cant

oregonianabroad · 22/03/2008 15:42

How about this with black tights and wedges for my dcs birthday party?
