anyone else where Color Wow Dream Coat didn't work for their frizzy hair?

If you've tried the Dream Coat and it didn't work, have you tried any other similar ones, like the Drybar liquid glass spray or anything?

I have heard so many good reviews about Dream Coat, but I found that it just seemed to coat each strand of hair separately in a way that meant that they were all wiry and wouldn't like smooth against each other (despite straightening). They really felt coated and it meant I had lots of volume but not in a nice way - just lots of individual strands, a bit straw like. I do have an awful lot of hair, though, and very frizzy/scraggly.

I've recently seen lots of recommendations for the Drybar Liquid glass sealant, which does something very similar. But all the reviews comparing it to the Dream Coat are from people who liked Dream Coat already and were trying to decide if Liquid Glass is as good as/better than. I've not read anything from people who didn't like Dream Coat.

I've also read some things from people who found that Dream Coat changed the texture of their hair, or made them start to lose/break hair - and they assumed it was why - but none of those people had also tried the Liquid Glass, so I don't know if it also has that effect on some people.

I love Philip Kingsley products. I have the elasticizer and also a really nice serum.

I have wavy frizzy hair and I don’t like the dream coat either@Leafbuds find it makes me feel like my hair is softer and thicker but still quite frizzy!

Moroccanoil have brought out a coating frizz spray. It smells nice but I might as well have just sprayed water on my hair. It did literally nothing.

I have liked the elasticiser by Philip Kingsley too, but I'm not sure if it's a frizz protector? I used it as a Deep conditioner when my ends were very dry. I think I need a frizz protector most of the time!!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't get on with Dream Coat, though I was hoping people might say Liquid Glass worked very differently!! It's the coating of each strand that makes me think it might be too similar. I don't want to see each strand standing out! I've enough volume already.

Dreamcoat has been under the sink unused for about three years after one use. Had high hopes. Was wildly awful! Needs chucking.

I used the dream coat then blow dried my hair and I was quite pleased with the effect; my hair looked smooth but bouncy.
However as soon as I went out in the damp weather it just frizzed up again, so a complete waste of time.

Looking at the Philip Kingsley site and there seem to be lots of frizz serums and treatments etc, but I don't know what combination I'd need.

The deep conditioner/elasticizer seemed good for occasional use, but I need to stop the frizz coming back every time, so maybe one of the serums, or gloss spray, or leave-in conditioners, or 5-in-1 styling cream or... too many options!

Sometimes I think products with such high promises and price points squeak by on user skill. The instructions on these things are always very exacting, and because we so desperately want the results, we style our hair to the absolute best of our ability. So our hair looks better anyway, because of our own efforts.

These coating sprays require heat and tension. Add in sectioning, and you'll get the best possible home blow dry regardless of which snake oil you sprayed liberally.

@Leafbuds have you tried Moroccan oil? I find dreamcoat works best for me but DS2 (who has the same hair as me) prefers Moroccanoil - just the oil from the pump glass bottle. Put it on wet hair, then dry and straighten

Leafbuds · 06/02/2024 13:41

Yes I've tried something called Moroccan oil, but not sure it was a glass bottle. I'll have a look!
