How to choose a lipstick colour?

very basic question here but how do you know what colour(s) of lipstick suit you best?
ive just recently decided I think grey eye make up suits me better than brown. I’ve no idea if it’s ageing or changing fashions but I just feel quite lost with makeup colours.

I just go to space nk or better still an appointment with a mum for a bespoke lesson. It's not cheap, but could save a lot in wrong choices.

Loads of help if you google. I just googled asking what lipstick colour is best for my eye colour, skin fair, light medium, olive etc and hair colour and found it helpful. Not a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury, find the products totally over hyped, and her darlings adverts nauseating, that is just my opinion but there is a guide on her website that might help choosing colour

Test it on your finger tip, if it looks 'right' it'll look ok on your lips. Tip from Bobbi Brown. Really works.

Trinny London has a good shade selector.
I find it very confusing navigating whether I’m warm or cool. I go by do I have yellow tones or pink in my skin. Some things to try are : do blue tone reds/pinks look better, or orange? Warm browns or cool?
You have to try on a lot of colours.

They do a great colour service at boots no 7 counters. They hold a little scanner to your skin and it tells you your foundation and what lipsticks suit you. I was really impressed with the shades it suggested for me, both foundation and lipstick

Any particular mum? Mine's dead, can't ask her 😂

I saw a video where the end of the index finger was pressed until it changed colour and that is the colour you choose for your lips!

I would go to a good make up counter (Laura Mercier or Bobbi Brown maybe) in a big store and ask for advice and try some on. Don't feel pressured to buy on the spot though. Wear it for a while to see how well it lasts and how the colour looks in natural light.
What colour eyes, skin and hair do you have?

Haha. I was trying to write mua- makeup artist!

Probably not entirely practical but I went to get myself House of Colour draped etc which included make up matching. I tried several lipsticks that all "worked". I was particularly impressed by the red match. Thought to myself "aha! This is the red I've been searching for all my life!" (Grin). I've since googled my sub season and found other excellent suggestions from various brands.

Sorry, got held up working…. I’m naturally honey dark blonde - very unfashionably “brassy”. I was freckled when younger. Fair but not “pale”. Can go rosy cheeked when warm but not problem rosy usually. I’m 47. Blue eyes.

I wear blue and green clothes and silver jewellery. I cannot wear yellow or orange clothes.
