Grown out blonde balayage

I have grown out blonde balayage. The blonde parts look really dry and I want to go back to my natural brunette colour.

I was going to semi permanent dye the blonde sections with a light red as a filler then use a semi permanent brown all over. Is this a terrible idea?

I went to the salon for a consultation and they suggested permanently dying the blonde balayage but I heard permanent is more damaging? I also have some greys so I guess semi wouldn’t work on those?

I can't even see the blonde bits on the image, is ok as it is? Maybe do conditioning/repair treatments on it instead to help with quality.
Putting a red semi-under under then a brown on top seems like a lot of chemicals. If you are going to dye it why not just go brown, and then you'll have some lighter brown highlights??

I’m no expert but using red dye, even as a temporary ‘fix’, is not something I would do. Everyone I know who’s ever had red dyed hair, of any kind, has had an absolutely hellish job getting rid of it again.
To be honest it looks like it’s only the very ends anyway. A good chop would get the blonde gone altogether and leave you with a blank slate.

I would get the ends cut, the only way to get rid of the dryness.

Thank you. The blonde runs through half of my hair (can’t really see it in the pic) and through the front of my hair so if I cut it would have to go really short which doesn’t suit me.

Thank you. I’ve read you need to use a ‘filler’ which would be red before drying it brown as it could go green. There’s quite a lot of dark blonde running through my hair, the ends of those strands look very dry but I don’t want to go shorter. I’ve been using hair treatments but not working as much as I’d like. I thought brunette might disguise it better?

Just go to the hairdresser and let them do it. Trying to do this at home, you are going to end up going back to the hairdresser, but for an expensive color correction.
Also, as this is the ends, I wouldn't worry that the hairdresser's color is permanent as, before too long, you will be cutting it out anyway.
