Mary Jane's - do you think they will be out of fashion soon and are just a fad?

I'm considering buying a Chanel pair of these but not sure if they might look daft in couple years from now as they're not cheap!

Personally I think they're a micro trend that's already on the downturn but if it fits in seamlessly with your personal style they won't look out of place in the future.

thedevilinablackdress · 02/02/2024 17:59

Exactly, if a trend comes in that I like and fits my style, I might buy it. Otherwise, I let it pass by.

Anonymouslyposting · 02/02/2024 19:39

I really hope they stay - love having a heel that feels properly securely attached to my foot.

Crooklodge · 02/02/2024 19:55

The comfiest shoes I've ever owned were bog standard new look Mary janes, was absolutely gutted that I left them on a trip. I got a lot of use out of them over 15 years at least. Bugger trends.

AboutYouAndPeru · 02/02/2024 19:58

I've just bought a pair.

Which means they are probably already out of fashion if my usual record for following style is anything to go by.

lavenderlou · 02/02/2024 19:59

Ooh, are they in fashion?? I have a 20 year old pair that I love but have been languishing in the back of the wardrobe. Typical that I may have missed the boat! Although what are they worn with now? I used to wear them with pencil skirts, which I am also clinging onto in hope of a resurgence.

NamechangedH · 02/02/2024 20:02

I've always loved them ad have struggled finding nice pairs. So am delighted there are options to choose from now. The Miu miu ballet flats from about 8 years ago are my holy grail shoes. If you love them, get a pair without worrying about whether they'll last as a fad. If not, maybe give them a swerve.

I have some too, 20 years 😂

Supposed to look hip with wide leg jeans

CheerfulBunny · 02/02/2024 22:25

I think they look great if you've got long, coltish legs like Twiggy or Alexa Chung. I have legs like a shire horse so am giving them a swerve. Ditto the predicted capri pants revival 😕

newrubylane · 02/02/2024 22:25

I really hope not. It's been years of big clumpy shoes that just look dreadful on my skinny ankles. It's been nice to be able to find nice neat-looking shoes again! I might have to stock up to see me through the show drought again.

CointreauVersial · 02/02/2024 22:29

I don't have Mary Jane feet, so I'm swerving this particular trend. I'll stick with loafers, which look so much better on my big, wide hooves.

I would try them as the strap creates an optical illusion of a shorter narrower foot

DGPP · 02/02/2024 22:32

I think they’re for children!

greengreengrass25 · 02/02/2024 22:32

They stay on and support my narrow feet so I like them

kab89 · 02/02/2024 22:35

I always go for a Mary Jane or a T-Bar if I'm wearing court shoes. If there is no strap my shoes are like flip-flops on my feet.

Not with a heel or a pointed toe it's the style. I think we are all wearing trainers now like kids

adriftinadenofvipers · 02/02/2024 22:36

I don't like them personally but surely Mary Janes have always been around?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/02/2024 22:37

Aren't they always around? Same as ballet pumps? I've got a navy and silver pair from Hobbs which I bought 8 years ago.

I hate clompy shoes, trainers, platform soles, loafers. I'd never wear that type of shoe no matter how "on trend" they might be.

Yes. They have.

But there are always neat shoes. LK Bennett for example almost don't sell anything else. Hobbs as well.

CointreauVersial · 03/02/2024 09:16

@maeveiscurious oh, I have tried them. That's if I can actually get them on past my massive bunions. 🙄Not my cup of tea, even though I love the look on others with more delicate feet.

pregahes · 04/02/2024 11:50

I think I'll be buying them they are so beautiful and have a cute diamanté logo on the back very understated and chic.

I can't find them online they appear to only be in the boutique so fingers crossed they're still there when I get paid!
