Because of Alice - anyone bought?

I’ve seen some clothes by a brand I’m not familiar with, because of Alice, looks right up my street. Anyone bought from them before? Looking to check they’re not a dodgy company and no issues with ordering/ delivery and also interested in any opinions on quality/ sizing.

I get quite a bit from BOA, really nice stuff in my opinion

Garlicnaan · 01/02/2024 19:54

Just had a quick look, lots of synthetic materials and quite boring. At full price, hideously expensive for polyester and acrylic.

The premium selection is made from wool though.

NOTE: All Final Sale items are not eligible for return or refund.

From their website. That's not what UK distance selling regulations say. The right to return applies to sale items.

I brought a waistcoat and was impressed with the quality. Bit expensive so might be worthwhile waiting for sale or look on Vinted

JoanDarc · 02/02/2024 19:53

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle I saw that which really put me off. If it’s a UK based company then legally that’s not correct.
@Garlicnaan synthetic materials is par for the course for most retailers. I’m not adverse to some of them, viscose IME is breathable and looks nice for a draped top. Funny how opinions differ, you think boring and I’m loving no garish prints, simple classic cuts in neutral colours. It is almost impossible to find this in most high street shops.

I agree re your point about having quality on the high street. It’s hard to find the silk and wool 100% materials on the high street - im looking at buying less and focussing on higher quality items from places like maxmara. I was looking for 100% wool trousers on the high st and it’s near impossible!

The website is very careful to hide where they're based and where they are shipping from.

beetr00 · 02/02/2024 20:18

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle aren't they drop shippers, hence their no returns policy?

JoanDarc · 02/02/2024 20:30

@beetr00 what does this mean? I’ve never heard of this phrase, intrigued!

I can't speak to their website but they seem to be a UK based company. You can find their accounts on Companies House. In the notes to their accounts, they do say that customers have a right to return for 30 days (hence incurring a liability at year end).

And yes, I am very bored tonight.

If they're selling in the UK they're breaching distance selling rules.

mynameiscalypso · 02/02/2024 20:58

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle I know that. I was just pointing out that their annual accounts says they have a different returns policy to the one on the website.

beetr00 · 03/02/2024 10:22

@JoanDarc from wiki 🙂

Drop shipping is a form of retail business in which the seller accepts customer orders without keeping stock on hand. Instead, in a form of supply chain management, the seller transfers the orders and their shipment details either to the manufacturer, a wholesaler, another retailer, or a fulfillment house, which then ships the goods directly to the customer.

YourBluntOtter · 24/04/2024 16:37

Avoid at all cost. Their return policy is an absolute joke and the customer service is useless.

JoanDarc · 24/04/2024 19:52

@YourBluntOtter oh no, sorry to hear you’ve had issues. I was about to purchase and started this thread, so pleased I didn’t when I found out about their business model and returns policy.

YourBluntOtter · 24/04/2024 20:04

You made a good call! I can tell you that the quality does not justify their price. This was my 3rd time purchase, and the size was far off from their own size chart (i wear xs and what i receiced was so much bigger than my other clothes , obviously faulty) The robotic customer service representative keeps on saying that i still need to pay for the return postage. Today I claimed a dispute with the credit card company so lets see how it goes 🤞🏼

augustbuggie · 27/11/2025 11:05

AVOID! Sizing is OFF and the customer service is non-existent. This company is very sneaky and has terrible customer service. I ordered several items from the outlet section as well as a few full-price items, and followed their sizing guide (I even bought a tape measure to ensure my measurements were correct). The products I received were so small I could not button them. When I went to reorder these items in the next size up, two of the items (which appeared to be part of the end-of-season summer linen collection found in the outlet section) were now listed at full price, and the outlet section of their site had disappeared, within one week.

It also feels like a very shady pricing tactic to list items in an “outlet” section, implying end-of-stock clearance, not a temporary sale, and then hike the prices back up immediately afterward without any explanation.

They do not offer exchanges, and you must return items at your own cost. I have never encountered a company with such awful customer service policies. It's embarrassing when SHEIN has better customer service than a supposedly U.K.-based company. Also, the products are heavily polyester (plastic) and not worth the hassle at this price point. They are nicely designed but poorly sold, and it is not worth dealing with BOA, especially when you are the one spending money.
