Stylish, comfortable, waterproof walking boots anyone?

I'm looking for walking boots to hopefully last me years. I'm going to be doing some hiking in Costa Rica next month, but be great if they also worked in freezing temps in the UK. Anyone got any recommendations? I've googled, and come up with some options, but better to get personal recommendations I think. Thank you!

Scarpa boots are great, I have traditional leather ones, very comfortable. They have non leather ones. They were about £180. I have never considered stylish as an aspect.

Dubarry River Boots, I've had mine for four years and still going strong

Go to a proper outdoor shop that does boot fittings, it's a game changer for walking and hiking tbh.

Do you want proper hiking boots? I ask because I just bought some Bareback Quebec boots which are more country boots - they are leather and look more like a pair of fashion boots. But, they’re tough as….well, as old boots!
they’re the most beautiful boots I’ve ever owned even if they are covered in mud after 3 days of ownership.

I have a pair of leather Scarpa ones. Smart looking rather than stylish. They're waterproof and as comfortable as slippers, they don't need breaking in at all. I can put them on first thing in the morning and still be happily wearing them 12 hours later.

Totally this.

Different boots and different manufacturers fit different feet, differently! There's even variation within the range from one manufacturer.

A good outdoor shop will have a range of boots in to try, and a little hill to try them out on. The staff should be able to advise on how the various boots fit (wide toe box, narrow, low arches etc) and know about insoles and lacing patterns to make them fit.

I know from expensive experience that I cannot wear Salamo or Inov8 boots, although there is no denying they make great boots. Salamon are DH's go to. On the other hand, I can wear leather Scarpas straight out of the box and they fit beautifully with no rubbing at all.

I also have leather Scarpa boots, decades old. Looked after well they'll last a long time. Very comfy but they are heavy.

Thanks all. I’ll go into a shop I think, good advice
