I'm sitting browsing the usual suspects of websites that I happen to browse and lo and behold I'm on the Next website and they have loads of new stock in.

I'm interested.

So I start browsing the shoes and what do I find, only these gems:
https://www.next.ie/en/style/su238249/901806#901806

€912 a pair.

In Next.

Do they even know who their target market is any more?????

I keep scrolling...

I find these

https://www.next.ie/en/style/su238242/901747#901747

€746

You've got to be having a laugh, right? No one goes to the Next website to find D&G shoes.....or do they? Is this where the people with money shop now?

@poopoolala "They are making high end stuff accessible to the average Joe" the thing is though, for the average Joe, buying stuff from Next itself is probably as 'high end' as they are likely to go or be able to afford.
If you're able to afford D&G shoes or merchandise, you're probably not an 'average Joe' are you so why would you buy the products from Next instead of going straight to the source?

I guess they're targeting the aspirational amongst their usual clientele. I know plenty of people with not much money who would scrimp, save and credit for a designer bag/shoes.

Not sure D&G are the prime choice, personally, but I guess someone knows why they've made that choice.

@JustWhatWeDontNeed

The majority of our customers use the next website for exactly this type of thing

You can buy large quantities of designer : high end brand without paying a penny .

It's not the aspirational, loads of people do it daily ..we sell loads , we return LOADS but it's easy and quick to do which is why they are still so present and busy on the high street .

trulyunruly01 · 31/01/2024 12:51

Do you get the designer bag or a Next carrier?
Cos if I'm laying out £900 on shoes I want that designer bag.
Also, if I'm spending £900 on a pair of shoes I want the experience, not to be hanging round the Next checkout while randoms buy their multi packs of knickers.

Mairzydotes · 31/01/2024 13:10

It's easier to get store collection and return from Next , I can see the appeal with that when buying online.

poopoolala · 31/01/2024 13:33

@trulyunruly01 nope but you get to pay it off over years 🤣..: that's the appeal !

God forbid we underestimate Next, eh?

Yeah, be afraid. Be very afraid.

I've just found a Gucci handbag for over €2k in Next.
That's just crazy money for something being sold in Next.

I'm not sure why you're so outraged?

Next clearly knows that Next has a market for high end goods.

If you don't want to buy them, then filter by brand or price 🤷‍♀️

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 31/01/2024 17:37

And it must be an EU thing, as there's only fragrance and cosmetics on the UK site, as far as I can see.

BlastedPimples · 31/01/2024 10:24

If spending £££££s were important to me, I don't think I'd buy them from Next regardless of the brand.

Receiving your costly items in a grey Next bag is not a good part of the experience.

Surely it's about the shoes not the carrier bag as they only cost a few pence. Maybe i am just old and don't find buying anything an "experience"

SleepingisanArt · 31/01/2024 18:02

Not on the UK site as a PP said and the links posted are for the Next Ireland site.

I'm not currently nor was I when I started this thread 'outraged'.

Gobsmacked - most definitely.
Outraged - no.

@TheBayLady people spending a lot of money expect more than a grey plastic bag.

Why do you think shops like Prada and Gucci spend so much on their retail space? And ensure they're in excellent locations.

LadyBird1973 · 01/02/2024 20:36

I guess if you're buying designer shoes from Next, while you might want the store experience, the store isn't going to give you credit, so you settle for getting the branded goods and the credit, but not the 'experience'.

Laiste · 01/02/2024 21:32

Maybe £500 (700 eu) on a pair of shoes isn't enough to expect really top end packaging any more?

You can spend 5/600 + quid on trainers theses days.

PepsiMaxLime · 02/02/2024 01:02

Next is going to own the entire high street soon & I think it’s such a shame. There’s no individuality left.
