Lots of nice clothes but feel like most are not right - can anyone relate?

Perhaps this is a reflection of my mental state…

But I just feel like I am not very good at choosing clothes. I have always enjoyed fashion (not obsessed with it but it brightens up my life). But I often end up with things that are not quite right. E.g. I have quite a few jumpers but really only like a few. The test is when I pack to go away somewhere and try to put together a travel capsule wardrobe…

I have quite a few things that just don’t fit well or are difficult to match with other things….

I am currently selling a few things on Vinted but no doubt will keep making the same mistakes…

I can. If it's any consolation, I don't think it's all down to choosing badly. Quite a few things that I've bought have shrunk slightly so they just don't fit right (tuck in properly etc), despite following care instructions. I end up keeping them in the wardrobe but not getting the wear out of them. I'm now a bit ruthless and just sell what is not working for me.

I also think it's difficult when your size fluctuates (as mine has done, having had two kids over past 5 years). Do you keep it all, buy stuff in bigger size? Then factor in wanting to look at least a little bit up to date and it can be hard to see the wood for the trees.

@Zengarden001 yes, I think the desire to keep up to date plays a part - I love the idea of only having classic clothes that I wear for 10 years but in practice I secretly want to look “current” - even more so now that I am 50!

I totally get you! I went through a similar phase after having my 2nd child so instead of buying more clothes I just invested in someone to help me. She helped me create outfits with the clothes I already had and only bought a few new pieces to complement everything.

I've learnt the hard way to only buy stuff if I have pieces that will go with it, or shoes that go with it, also I now ask myself, is this for the life I want or the life I have! (cheesy I know) There's no point buying another dressy dress if I spend 99% of my time at home.
