Aeroplane wear... help!

Hi all

I lurk and very occasionally post and I need some ideas from you wonderful posters on S&B.. In a few weeks we fly from UK (cold) long haul to a very hot country. Because of refuelling, the flight will be 18 hours. When we get off, we immediately board a small ship all elegant like!

I just do not have a clue what to wear on the plane to not look like a sack of porridge when I get off! We have a long journey to UK airport so need warmth then, but will not need it again until our return.

I imagined changing in the loo before landing but I know from experience that is sometimes just not possible with economy class, and what I take with me to do that might well be creased to hell with such a long flight.
To be noted... I'm old (but happy with myself), I love dressing up, size 14/16 max, 5ft7, good legs, spare tyre!
Thanks in advance. I'm at a loss where to start!

comfortable layers, wide leg trousers with a t shirt and soft jumper/cardigan you could drap the jumper over your sholders and look stylish when coming out of the airport im always cold when i travel escpilcally when im tired

or wear what you want for the plane and throw a maxi dress or shift dress on before landing or in the toliets at the airport you could probably change in your seat on the plane

I always roll a maxi dress and take that and some flat sandals in by carry on and get changed about 90 mins before landing to avoid the rush to the toilets!

I would wear a light wool dress with leggings and hoodie on the plane, lose the layers when you land. Wool is great, as it keeps you fresh and is actually ery pleasant to wear in hot climate. This type from Icebreaker for example:
https://www.icebreaker.com/en-us/womens-dresses-skirts/merino-granary-sleeveless-dress/0A56MWU3.html?dwvar_0A56MWU3_color=004&dwvar_0A56MWU3_US=end_of_line

Agree, I would do the same. I have multiple Icebreaker summer dresses that I wear in that way, although mine are older styles they don't seem to do anymore, which are more fitted and shorter.

Thank you all, this is very useful. I hadn't thought of a maxi/midi dress and I do have one that is soft jersey and would just perhaps need to look for a layer over it.

I get really cold on planes especially when I can't sleep. I'm going to have a look for a soft but warm cardigan now...

For this situation I would do wide leg coord with a button down shirt - something like this https://www.reiss.com/style/ST877852/423060?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAtt2tBhBDEiwALZuhAGG6qvGALs4M8ttlgkTXo7fSdAgJGcxDCOJGremitkIj0oGLKRZbLxoCqIsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#423060. But if you've good legs a dress or tunic might be better it's just I'd worry about being cold on the plane.

Oversized soft jumper on top and woolly socks for the plane with some sort of slip on mule (I'd do birkenstocks but they can be... divisive!). Hair braided or up in some way that means it doesn't get lank or greasy looking. No make up, just stick some moisturiser on on plane, and I use super duper 48hr deo (the sure one) to make sure even if I feel grim I don't smell grim.

Jumper and socks off, facewipe and SPF before you get off the plane (can be done in seat). Swoosh off plane looking fashionably rumpled but fresh faced 😅

Those people that occupy the economy loos for 25 minutes to do a full face of make up and outfit change should be locked in the hold as punishment in my opinion.

@shrodingersvaccine Love your post!

I am actually on a plane and not in a time machine so at my age, the possibility of fresh faced left me a long time ago! However I get the idea, and I shall moisturise moisturise moisturise on the plane, and hope it does the trick!

Thanks for the link and also the woolly socks idea, plus slip ons. And if I go the dress route, it will be mid calf and I shall have at least one pashmina in my hand luggage to cover up with. (along with the hairy blanket provided!)

I would take a cotton plain maxi dress in a solid colour, and some BIG sunglasses.

For the flight I would wear a pair of soft jersey trousers, a vest, a long sleeve and then a jacket that you’d wear on holiday. Trainers and socks

Change out of clothes and swap to dress. Apply some make-up and some jewellery- for me it would be big gold hoops and some layered necklaces.

Keep trainers on.

on the flight.

remove makeup, apply masses of moisturiser and keep doing that. 1 hour before landing. Wash face. Gua sha face and apply serum and moisturiser, spf. Make up applied. Brush hair out and freshen up. Re apply deodorant.
