Where do you buy jewellery for yourself?

I usually wear costume jewellery from small craft shops - it’s pretty, it supports a small business, and I haven’t broken the bank if I lose it - but where do you get your jewellery? All of my good pieces are inherited - not entirely sure where’d I go if I wanted to choose one for myself.

I have a small collection of 'good' jewellery (diamonds) and most of that is from a local jewellers (not a chain, but an independent business.)

I've a few things from local jewellery makers (all solid silver.)

Other jewellery I've bought from John Lewis as they have a wide range of brands as well as pre-loved jewellery in their stores.

I buy at auction. A fraction of the cost of new .

I go to a lovely little independent jewellers. It is near where I grew up - since moved away a bit but still make the effort to go there when need arises. Went specially for my engagement and wedding rings and any special occasions. It is just such a nice shopping experience, as well as supporting a small local business which has been in the area for a couple of generations and such a lovely selection at reasonable prices. I can't pass an independent jewellers without popping in!

Vintage on ebay. I have specific designers /companies I look out for.

My husband buys me jewellery from Monica Vinader and I buy myself occasional bits from Naledi. They are non- profit organisation who make pieces in South Africa and have very regular sales and 2 for 1 offers. I think they also plant a tree for every purchase.

Fellows? Or somewhere else?

Another vote for vintage on eBay; particularly from charity sellers like BHF, Cancer Research etc, as they usually provide a guarantee of authenticity.

@SpringMeadows im not in UK, the Saleroom is a website that has listings for many UK auctions.

I'm going through a couer de lion phase. Especially the geocube bracelets.

Usually I buy from John Greed.

I'm on my 4th bracelet in 4 years. Not because they don't last, I just end up fancying one in a different colourway every now and then.

I get Monica Vinader and Dower and Hall in sales or on Vinted.

My friend gets some beautiful jewellery from Vinted. I personally like antique jewellers. They have a huge range of styles, some really beautiful pieces.

CarefulPython · 29/01/2024 22:37

A local antique jewellery dealer in my local town.
