Orthotics in work shoes

Does anyone have orthotics and have shoes that are not trainers that they fit into?

I know I could request that I can wear trainers but that just isn't the vibe where I work so would prefer something that could fit in. A brogue or loafer could work.

Failing that does anyone have a shoe that has a bit of arch support in it. I have Carvela trainers that I can wear ok without the orthotics.

thanks.

No, luckily I can wear trainers to work. Even brogues are no good, my heels are narrow and having the heel lifted by the orthotic means that they flap about even if tightly laced. Birkenstock shoes would be my best bet, I live in the sandals in summer and don't need orthotics then.

Yes narrow heels here too. I might have to go with trainers.

Will have a look at Birkenstock. Thanks.

Clarks Mary Jane style or Hotter boots is what I wear. You can swap the Clarks insole for an orthotic. The boots are supportive enough on the arch without one.

You can’t wear orthotics with anything slip on or a boot it needs to be a shoe that fastens over the foot with a lace or buckle or Velcro that can’t be removed without undoing the fastening.

You need to hold the foot firmly over the orthotic or the foot will slip forwards off the insole and be ineffective.

I wear massive orthotics in Birkenstock lace up boots. I take the Birkenstock foot beds out. Also Birkenstock bend trainers (I know you said no trainers)

Interested to know. I find a classic ankle boot with a 1 inch heel is good enough to keep my foot in the correct position without orthotics but I struggle with anything else.

These boots.

Clark’s ‘Funny Dream’ are good. Also all of the Clark’s ‘unstructured’ range.

Anecdotally, I wore orthotics for 20 years and I really relate to your issue…I stopped wearing orthotics on the advice of a private physio who said they made the muscles of the feet lazy. It seems they were right and now I don’t need orthotics. I did and still do have to do lots of exercise to maintain this. I thought it was worth mentioning.

@FormerlyPathologicallyHappy That's not what my physio or podiatrist has said. I use an orthotic to combat achilles tendonitis. In some shoes I use a half insole one and others a full one. It depends on show and existing insole. Many of the half ones you can stick in place, and the full ones are never going to have any slippage because its the whole insole. The only issue I have are sandals ( and so I bought a pair from Strive- but vionic are fairly good). You could try strive or vionic for arch support work shoes. But I've had success with using wide fits from Clarks and Naturaliser and sticking in an orthotic...

I am a podiatrist @hettie

You can slip forwards in a full length insole too if the foot isn’t held over the insole you aren’t targeting the bones you need to support.

Insoles need a flat supportive shoe with a heel of less than one inch with a fastening.

Vionic do a nice looking range of loafers & boots/shoes. All with arch support already in place.

Just coming back to this to update.

There is a brand called Waldlaufer who make a wide range of styles and most seem to fit an orthotic.
