Do you set much store by colour seasons, Kibbe types, etc.?

Asking as I've noticed a few references to these cropping up in different threads on S&B recently. Do you think most people fit into one, or is it more like fashion astrology?

Personally, I've spent far too much time trying to figure mine out, but the fact is that I don't fit into any season or any Kibbe body type, with some features and good/bad colours that are majorly incompatible. I've been buying clothes for long enough to know which colours and shapes suit me, and luckily there's a fair bit of overlap between that and clothes I like the style of. However, I have a good friend who fits perfectly into a colour season and Kibbe type, and happens to also really like those colours and the recommended clothes styles, and always looks great!

Do you pay any attention to these, and dress for your lines or wear your colours? Anyone else who likes the idea but doesn't fit into any of them?

@StoneColdAlibi I am cool leaning neutral and some brands my foundation is WARM! I am a cool yellow tone, some foundations are warm= yellow, cool= pink. Hence it's not a good idea to use this as a main deciding factor.
At least from my draping I know my best colours, even if I had to guess my 'subseason' myself.

I'm the same with kibbe, a dramatic classic, but FN second best. Neither of them quite fit though. Maybe there was something better for us, like a pure natural, that would fit, but Kibbe decided to get rid of. It probably works only if you fit the type. I am very 'medium' and my face is round with soft features, so even if the dramatic classic styles fit my straight shoulders, my face looks photoshopped on my body!!

@Potaytoe5 I think both systems rely on the idea that most people will conform across 'types' but you will always have anomalies. I don't mind being one.

@StoneColdAlibi I felt I needed help with my style after having children, but kibbe is just not it.
I found the best way to cure myself from trying to 'fit' in the system, was checking out his website and his 'before and afters' on fb!!
Also, as stated on his website in the 'about' section:
'No one is more awed and humbled by David Kibbe’s life than David himself.'
Need I say more!

I do tend to try to pick my best colours (although I have never had my colour analysis done, I think I'm a winter but will pay for an analysis whenever i have any money!) The Kibbe thing I don't follow but I am a pear shape so I sort of know what looks bad/good. I find it hard enough getting decent quality clothes that last nevermind also trying to buy them in my colours. :-(

I find your posts refreshing and inspiring though, @ProperSleep - I admit that most of what I know about what suits me is based on what I regard as faults in my appearance. So I make choices based on what won't make me look large or sallow/pasty or accentuate my large bust, and I tend towards neutral colours because I don't really like to stand out. It's noticeable though that the one thing I've bought in the last few years that I truly love is a bright yellow velvet coat! I hardly ever buy bright colours, but I often admire them on other people.

That coat sounds fantastic! I hope you’ve found plenty of occasions to wear it - weddings and christenings and school concerts and gallery browsing and lunches and popping out to Sainsbury …

I do take note of what is suppose to suit my shape, I've done the Trinny and Susanah body type quiz, but I've known since my late 20s what suits me, I make mistakes when I'm trying to fit into a fashion look or I think I need a different look. I know unfitted clothes make me look fat, clothes without structure make me look like a barrel due to having GG boobs, I always always need to create a waist. Colour wise I'm drawn to what suits me, navy, grey, jewel tones etc. The only colour I'm unsure about is khaki, I think it has to be a certain tone. I'm not ridged in my choices, but I know when I'm purchasing something if it's going to be a winner. I bought a lovely dress last year, in oranges and pale yellow, I Iiked it because it had a 70s vibe, I stupidly thought that because I had a tan that I could get away with it, I've not worn it yet. I know deep down it doesn't suit my colouring, yet I can't get rid of it. 😂
