Denman hairbrush gone manky — fixable or bin?

I used to have long hair, then had it short, and now it's long again. So I dug out my old Denman hairbrush. You know the one — shiny black plastic handle with a red rubber cushion slid into it, with rows of translucent white plastic bristles pushed through the rubber cushion from behind.

The rubber bit seems to have denatured in storage, though, and it's unpleasantly sticky no matter how much I wash it.

Does anyone know if there's some easy fix I don't know about, or should I just buy a new brush? I know they're cheap, but I'd be annoyed if I threw it away and it turned out there was some simple solution.

Fix Up an Old Hair Brush With Plasti Dip : 7 Steps - Instructables
not tried it or plasti dip

Bin. I know exactly what you mean and it’s gross.

DuchessOfSausage · 26/01/2024 19:13

Yes, just bin it.

I have that brush. They're great but every few years or so you do need to replace, for just as you describe, the rubber starts to deteriorate.

Denman sell replacement parts

SnowsFalling · 26/01/2024 19:17

I've just bought a new one because of the state of the rubber.
Off to investigate the replacement parts comment above. I could renovate my old one, and have a bathroom and a hairdryer brush!

Replacement pads Shock I could swear I looked all over their site and somehow never found that. £4 postage though… ouch. Thank you for finding it for me, though. I don't think I fancy the plasti-dip idea, sounds too much like hard work Grin

Worth noting for anyone else who comes on this thread that Plasti-Dip and that whole tutorial is American and may not be available in the UK.

DuchessOfSausage · 26/01/2024 20:38

It is available in the UK

Just buy another brush. They're not that expensive, and a good hairbrush matters. Go on, treat yourself.
