Clinique take the day off cleansing balm and dramatically different moisturiser

I know these two items have a lot of good things said about them and I agree as I have tried samples but both are so expensive. I mean £35 for a cleanser?

Is it really worth buying the full sizes or are cheaper alternatives as good?

Thank you for your replies. It does seem a lot to spend on cleanser. I tend to use Liz Earle cleanse and polish, that's not quite as expensive and I often get it bought for me for presents.

I tend to spend more money on foundation and lipstick so try to go cheaper on skin care if I can. I do like salon hair products though.

What are your views about what to spend on and what to economise on?

I love Dior’s Addict Lip Glow (rose nude) and the Clinique Almost There lipstick (in black and pink honey). For me it’s worth spending on those. But then I have loads of Laura Geller products which I’m really liking on my tired 50s skin - mineral foundation, blush, eye swipe shadows, spackle products. These are… cheap!

I think it’s just what makes you feel good, honestly. I always used to have mostly Clinique until a few months ago and don’t regret the changes.

I love Clinique take the day off. It lasts for six to seven months. It's a fiver a month. I used to use No7 three in one wipes until they were taken off. They were £7.99 pcm or £15.98 for three months when on offer for 3 for 2. Still more expensive and not as nice.

I really like Estee's Day Cream - had it as a free gift and would buy.

I used to use Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. Now I use Aldi's version, which is just as good and a fraction of the price. I also really like their serum and their Caviar moisturiser.

I used to like DDML some years back but my skin and budget have changed over time!

I like Cetaphil and Cerave. I also have some Elemis moisturisers but I don’t think I would repurchase. I do rate their cleansing balm though, AND the Body Shop one.

Evolve Gentle Cleansing Melt from John Lewis is one I return to a lot. Leaves skin soft, removes mascara and is easy on the eyes. Although it looks more of a gel than a balm, it goes on dry then emulsifies with water.

I got the moisturiser for £17 so definitely have a look on line as there's loads of deals.

Camomile balm is fantastic and gets all male up off including waterproof mascara. I wouldn't waste ££s on a cleanser.

I get both and pay in 3 with Klarna. They both last months. I love the balm and it works better than anything else I've tried. My daughters rate micellar water but it takes ages to get my mad sea off and I don't even wear that much. I buy from the Clinique website when they have freebies in offer, which is most of the time. I seem to have developed an allergy to the smart spf 15 and the moisture surge which is a pisser as I get lots of that in the gifts. Good old perimenopause, the gift that keeps on giving! I changed to Clinique 10 years ago and apart from the recent allergy rash my skin is the best it's ever been.

I just checked on Notino and the moisturizer is sold in 4 different sizes and at the moment they've all got 20% off. (It's not the UK Notino though, so offers may be different)
I'm surprisingly pleased with the moisturizer, I've never been a huge Clinique fan for skincare as they seem to cater for oily/problem rather than Sahara Dessert (me!) but the DDM (for dry-very dry) is actually working really nicely for me. Could never get on with Moisture Surge which did nothing for me.

I sacked Clinique off for Cerave about a year ago after using the brand for years and years. My skin has never looked better.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 26/01/2024 08:46

I love Clinique, have been using the yellow lotion my entire life. It's much cheaper in the US if you know anyone going there (UK seems to have about a 40% markup!) but sometimes duty free has good prices. Both products you mentioned will last a long time.

innerdesign · 26/01/2024 09:49

I use the cleansing balm and think it's worth it. Yes it's expensive but you can usually find it cheaper somewhere (20% off, e.g.) and it lasts months. I use it daily and only have to buy it 3 or 4 times a year. I tried a different cleansing balm recently and had to bin it. It was the Upcircle one, horribly waxy and left a residue. I might try the Body Shop camomile one since it's getting such a good name.

Moisturisers - unless you have problem skin I think a cheap moisturiser is fine. I use Simple

BarbaricPeach · 26/01/2024 10:27

I like the TTDO balm because it has no fragrance. I have very sensitive skin so try to avoid it anyway, but also on a personal level I just hate the strong smells of the other balm cleansers I've tried.

DDM I can live without. It's perfectly good and the cheapest moisturiser I've found that doesn't make my skin awfully sore and red. I buy it sometimes as a backup that I alternate with the more expensive one to make it last longer.

Agree. I only use LE now if given it as a gift. Superdrug also does a good Vitamin E hot cloth cleanser.
