Saggy jawline: non-injectable, non surgical solutions?

Gravity has finally caught up with my face at 52. There have been threads about this before but quite old ones. Anything I can do that does not involve injectables? I am really doubtful about shelling out for one of those Foreo bear things. Seem very expensive for barely perceptible results on the You Tube videos.

My skin is decent. It's only my chin that lets down the side! I have quite a strong, prominent jaw anyway ( Think Eddie Izzard).

HRT if you are not on it. Lack of oestrogen can cause the jaw to shrink. It's described as putting a table cloth over a smaller table...

Apparently experts can tell by looking at a woman's face whether she's on HRT.

I'm sorry but I'm howling with laughter, anyone who claims to know if a woman is having HRT just looking at her face is the biggest charlatan on the planet, lol!

I was thinking the same!

latemumma I tried hifu and had high hopes but honestly couldn't see any discernible difference. I actually think the before and after photos they tend to use are photoshopped!

I had Sofwave. It had a little impact - in the way that this area doesn’t bother me as much as it did last year. But not dramatic and it’s bloody expensive.

MuddyBoots21 · 26/01/2024 12:28

@Delatron Did Softwave hurt? I've heard it is painful.

MokaEfti · 26/01/2024 12:37

There is nothing that will work for this apart from face lift, fillers etc.

It was ok actually but I went to a good clinic and I think they double layered me with numbing cream! I found profhilo more stingy. And laser.

The upside is there was zero downtime. Which is what is putting me off Morpheus 8.

Delatron · 26/01/2024 12:54

It’s a funny kind of pain - it heats up and just when you think it’s too much they move on to another area and it’s fine. But that is with lots of numbing cream.

The thing with all the face yoga Gua sha Caci facials is that you only ever see young gorgeous influencers trying them out so the before - after pics look exactly the same! What effect do they have on us lesser mortals? I am unsure.

Google it. Face yoga results in mature face. Plenty of examples.

It's not rocket science. Facial muscles are like any other muscle in our body. We can just go about our day or we can intentionally build muscles in our glutes, back, chest etc. We can do the same with our faces. Soft processed foods haven't helped as we chew less. Building strong facial muscles can help create a fuller structure to our face which helps limit the effects of muscle loss and bone degradation that occurs with age. It isn't miracle cure but it's noticeable and simple to do. It just needs to be regular like all muscle work.

MuddyBoots21 · 26/01/2024 13:07

@Delatron Thanks. Interesting to know. One clinic told me they supply laughing gas if the pain gets too much!

Mitherations · 26/01/2024 13:07

As you lose the fat pads in your cheeks and the collagen in your skin, the combination leaves the face moving downwards and creates the jowls. Nothing bar replacing the volume or the scaffolding of the skin with fillers, or surgery to lift the skin, is going to have much effect on this.

I think you reach a fork in the road which is invasive procedures one way and acceptance, some bright lipstick and bigger earrrings the other.

Delatron · 26/01/2024 13:16

@MuddyBoots21 that sounds good!

I honestly didn’t find it that bad - I may have taken paracetamol before I can’t remember. But definitely tolerable and I’ve had worse pain from other treatments.

Somepeoplearesnippy · 26/01/2024 14:23

over the last 7 years I've had ultherapy twice and a thread lift twice. The results have a noticeable but subtle improvement so very natural looking. Sadly the results don't last long , about 18 months as pp have said, hence the repeat treatments.

The thread lift is quick and easy but ultherapy is slow and very painful. Also ignore them when they say there is no down time. I end up very bruised every time. Thank god for face masks.

Overall I'm pleased with the results but my consultant has been very clear right from the start that the only thing that will restore my 20 year old profile is a full face and neck lift. I'm not silly enough to undergo a general anaesthetic when it's not essential for my health and also having the face of a 20 something on my 60 something body would look odd.

CharlotteRumpling · 26/01/2024 14:34

Lots of responses! I was doing a bit of face yoga yesterday on the sofa, and DH was laughing his head off. 😂Honestly I was like a cow chewing cud. His jowls are saggy too but does he care? No.

I do take HRT but not sure it has made any difference at all.

Think I am going to go for bright lipstick plus earrings, not looking at my phone so much, and acceptance!
