Lisa Eldridge - what is her secret? She must have one

CinemaMinstrels · 21/01/2024 12:30

Hi,

So I should start by saying I have followed her on YouTube for over a decade and have always found her tutorials really interesting and actually, quite relaxing to watch. I especially liked her videos on facial massage etc and never felt like she was trying to sell you anything. She doesn't do sponsored videos, which I like, but obviously she's rolling in it, so doesn't really need to, I guess.

She has always looked flawless imo and still does, but she must be doing more than facial massage and LED masks now. I remember she wrote an article years a go about how it's nobody else's business if someone has chosen to have botox, fillers etc, which I do understand - it isn't really. However, if you're promoting certain products, even if it's unpaid, it does seem a little off if you're saying things like "I've never had so many compliments on my skin since using this cleanser", when actually it's the fillers.

Don't get me wrong, if she is having those kind of treatments, she looks amazing. If she isn't and it really is just all these top end products (and massage) then she must have INCREDIBLE genes.

I would like to know though 😂

99% of Lisa's videos are about makeup, skincare and massage barely feature in her videos. The other day she did a massage one but that is rare.

If she has Botox and fillers is absolutely nobody's business as she's not promoting rejuvenating creams, lotions and potions. More importantly, she's not a journalist, she's a makeup artist and the best one in the business in my opinion. It's not like she's like some beauty journalists who hardly disguise their paid pieces and then shriek when they're found out (looking at you SH).

CinemaMinstrels · 21/01/2024 12:52

@BetsyBobbins yes, I know. I just like those videos in particular.

As I already said, I did agree with her about that, but I do think some people might watch her videos and subsiquently spend a lot of money on x and y products, in the hopes they might look as good as her, when that's realistically never going to happen.

The answer you’re looking for is filters. Never assume anyone looks that good unless you see them in person!

I have a different view. She has her own skincare line, promotes other skincare ranges, and even devices such as LED masks (where the focus is clearly achieving youthful skin). Even the way make-up sits on faces with botox and filler can be different. So while I would normally agree it's peoples own business, it's relevant when saying "x has been great for my skin" or "this make-up sits so beautifully" to know what else is going on to support the effects of that product or in some cases be aware that the injectable is causing 70% of the effect we might otherwise assume is a super cream.

She looks amazing, and it could be that she is wealthy purchased top notch products she is aware of because of her line of work, and has committed to consistently prioritising her skin for decades. Or that she has had some light touch and brilliantly done injectables, I really wouldn't be surprised. However, even if she hasn't had botox/filler I expect she probably has regular and expensive facials most of us would have once a year as a treat, so isn't accessible anyway.

CinemaMinstrels · 21/01/2024 13:23

@SummaLuvin you put it better than me.

OP posts:
BetsyBobbins · 21/01/2024 13:23

@SummaLuvin I do agree with you that makeup sits differently on a face that has had work done.

She does have a skincare line now but even that consists of a cleanser and a mist, you can hardly call that a full line of products. But the vast majority of her videos are makeup. Sometimes she has a video about a Led mask or something else but they're still not the bulk of her videos.

I wouldn't agree with the point that people are spending vast amounts on her skincare and gadgets recs , more like they're spending on her makeup recs, but then I'm not everyone, I only know about my own budget.

BetsyBobbins · 21/01/2024 13:28

More to the point, she uses a lot of different aged models with varying skin tones in her videos and this is something that I really like. I find hard to identify with MUAs who only do their own faces in their videos unless they have similar skin undertone and are of a similar age than myself.

I'm a bit confused.

Of course she’s had Botox and fillers. Very well done of course. She’s 49. She looks beautiful and it’s her business of course. But it is evident she has.

I meant exactly that. Makeup sits better on a face that has had work done.

The vast majority of her videos are makeup and not skincare, so she's not promoting miraculous lotions and potions saying "Buy this and you'll look forever young".

Also, like I said, she uses different models in her videos and doesn't do her own makeup all the time, so we can see makeup on an array of faces.

CinemaMinstrels · 21/01/2024 13:36

@TheSlantedOwl well yes, I would think so, but when she says things like "I've never had so many compliments about my skin since I started using this cleanser", which just so happens to be from her own range, it just feels a bit well....not really honest.

More to the point

well, actually that's a completely different point that the one raised by the OP. I feel openness around procedures and tweakments in the beauty space is important and it should be encouraged. Otherwise average Jos (like me) blame themselves and their genetics for not looking good enough, when really there has been interventions on those we are kicking ourselves for not looking more like. I don't think it's a bad thing to have work done, but I think there should be more transparency.

I also agree that Lisa is immensely talented as an MUA. I think she has the most wonderful calming voice. I think her videos are engaging, educational, and interesting. I also like that she works (and shows work) on models of varying races, ages, and even ones with active breakouts. But those are completely independent of the above.

TheSlantedOwl · 21/01/2024 13:38

Hmm, well - cleansers don’t claim to do what Botox and fillers do. Any product which enhances glow/pore size/smoothness is still legitimate regardless.

For a product which claims to eliminate wrinkles/have a lifting effect - then it would be disingenuous.

BetsyBobbins · 21/01/2024 13:43

Anyway, I think she's one of a very small group in the beauty industry with integrity, she doesn't need to promote crap in exchange for a few coins like some other ones do.

The beauty industry is one of the most dishonest and is littered with people promoting all sorts of junk, some of them are even "journalists" with columns in major publications, which of course are paid pieces and earn through affiliate links.

If you want to follow MUAs of a certain age who have wrinkles and all I would suggest Mary Greenwell of whom Lisa was an apprentice (together with Charlotte Tilbury by the way, but do not start me on Tilbury 😖). Also, Louise Constad.

BetsyBobbins · 21/01/2024 13:45

@SummaLuvin you're right, it was badly worded, I shouldn't have used more to the point, but I think you understood what I meant and I agree with your posts as well.

Go back to her old videos. Her face is much thinner and more lined. She hasn't put on loads of weight, from what I can tell, so yes she's using fillers and probably Botox too.

IMO her work is quite obvious - but I used to watch her years ago and saw her face recently and thought "!! That's different" so maybe less obvious if you've been watching her a while and a gradual change.

MabelMoo23 · 21/01/2024 15:27

I’m a massive fan of Lisa Eldridge and love her make up and also really like her tutorials and she uses lots of models of different ages which as a 47 year old I like.

also her customer service is excellent, if you contact them they respond really quickly. I just wish stuff would get re-stocked quicker! There’s a couple of items I want and feel like they’ve been out of stock for ages, as have the foundation cards. I’m not about to pay £44 on a foundation without knowing if it’s really the right shade. Although to be fair you can return under distance selling, but I’d rather get it right!

stardust777 · 21/01/2024 15:36

I love Lisa's videos - I find them weirdly therapeutic.

For me, it's refreshing (and reassuring!) when beauty/skincare influencers are upfront about any tweakments e.g. here

but ultimately, it's their choice to divulge (or not!).

Lottapianos · 21/01/2024 15:45

'Of course she’s had Botox and fillers. Very well done of course. She’s 49. She looks beautiful and it’s her business of course. But it is evident she has'

Completely agree. Her face looks so incredibly smooth. I'm sure she's had plenty of work done, and that's her own business and I really don't blame her given the industry she works in

WhereAreWeNow · 21/01/2024 15:51

I don’t know what her secret is but she's absolutely gorgeous. I also find her videos weirdly calming.
I'm quite naive and just assume she's blessed with great genes but maybe she's had stuff done.
