Age spots!

GlitteringUnicorn · 21/01/2024 09:09

Hi- I now have two age spots on my face which are starting to bother me.
(And before anyone asks I use SPF50, prescription strength tret and vit C every day. Unfortunately my childhood was in the tropics!).

I'm vain enough to want to go and do something about them but have never had any facial tinkering done before.

Has anyone got advice on what might work? I did read about laser and peels but would be grateful to hear from people who have had successes and what they used.

Thanks

No advice on peels etc but I’m getting good results with REN overnight dark spot sleeping cream. It takes time and it doesn’t completely erase them but I’m really surprised by how it’s fading them.

My sister had laser treatment for brown spots which were big and unsightly. It worked perfectly and there is no evidence of the mark or discoloration. I think she only had one session.

Same same. Using the tret and tried hydroquinone. Various vit c. Sunny childhood.

Would love to hear solutions.

How much are people paying for this laser?

spartanrunnergirl · 21/01/2024 22:20

I'm interested in this too. I use dermatica tret which also has Hydroquinone in and I've seen a real difference since starting in September. But think I'll look at laser next autumn depending on how summer goes.

Had IPL treatment last year, 6 sessions, £150 each. Brilliant at the time but the spots started to appear again after :( despite using spf every day.
Using dermatica tret with hydroquinone for the last 4 months and skin has never looked better :)
Almost gave up after a few months, skin peeling and red but have persevered and very glad I did
Have sun spots on backs of hands which def getting lasered away this year!

Would you say it's worth having the IPL or just keep up the dermatica? Thx

Wishyouwerehere30 · 26/01/2024 10:47

I'm glad I got the IPL, in the short term think it removed the sun spots and really refreshed my skin appearance and gave a real boost. The Dermatica keeps on top of the hyperpigmentation and is def a long term solution. IPL is just too expensive to have done every year (maybe some people can get away with one treatment but if you're prone to dark spots like me it would probably need to be done regularly)

I've had really good results with this. https://www.sephora.co.uk/p/Nivea-Cellular-Luminous-630-Anti-Dark-Spot-Face-Serum-30ml?curr=GBPcurr=GBP&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlaPgpez7gwMVyYtQBh15TgKuEAQYASABEgKbifD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Been using it for two months and can't belive how much it has faded two age spots. One is now barely visible (even in my superhuman supermagnifying lighted mirror) and the other is not far off.

Perfectlystill · 26/01/2024 23:17

Where can I get my age spots lasered off in London?

No idea where to start.

Summerdew · 28/01/2024 16:12

@Perfectlystill try medicetics, I’ve had a couple of treatments (150 a time for small patches), but didn’t get around to having enough to completely remove them. Skin clinics do it too.

Perfectlystill · 30/01/2024 21:41

Thanks @Summerdew I shall look them up

I had a big brown spot on my face (about the size of a 5p but it was quite dark) burnt off with Diathermy. Local anaesthetic meant it didn’t hurt but it did stink! Wasn’t expecting a face full of smoke as my skin was burnt off but it was quick and effective and I’m very happy with the results. The brown is entirely gone (2 months ago) and I just have a slightly red patch (which I was told would fade) and it’s completely covered by foundation.
I tried all the usual creams with no luck (it was dark!) so I was pleased that a single session got rid of it. I think it was £150 by a Dr.

Perfectlystill · 30/01/2024 22:20

I've never heard of diathermy. Will look it up

It sounds fancy but to my untrained eye it looked like a soldering iron! I’m sure it wasn’t… 😬
I don’t have the patience or the time for anything that needs multiple sessions and results in a gradual fade and I was very pleased that this was a single session and 100% gone. I would definitely do it again if/when another one appears.
