What to do with sleeves?

I have this dress (in a completely different colourway). It was expensive and I've only worn it once for a wedding and I have no more weddings on the horizon sadly.

I'd like to have it altered to make it short sleeved and a bit less formal so I can wear it more often as I think the sleeves are a bit OTT.

But what sort of sleeves? I know I don't want cap or angel sleeves. Would completely sleeveless work? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you 🙂

Bracelet length, so remove the cuff and then a side slit. Not sure sleeveless would suit the dress.

Before you get the sleeves cut off, maybe try it with a turtle neck underneath, a leather jacket and ankle boots to dress it down a bit.

Ooh that's an idea! Although I don't have that sort of jacket but I have many many pairs of ankle boots.

Is this the dress?

The sleeves aren't OTT. Everyone has different tastes but I think taking the sleeves off will make it less wearable and look odd.

It's the sleeves which make the dress interesting. Removing them turns it into just yet another dipped hem, angel sleeved dress.

Agreed. Sleeveless wouldn't look right, nor angel sleeves (although that's maybe just me as don't like angel sleeves on anything)

CharlotteStreetW1 · 20/01/2024 18:04

Yes it's that dress.

(I really don't like that colour and pink and red are normally my favourites. I bought it in a shop. It's odd because if I'd only seen it online I would have swiped straight past, even in the colour I've got it in.)

Anyway, I think it's the actual cuffs I'm not sure about.

Next question: if I wore it with ankle boots - black or nude tights?

I would also try turning the collar towards the inside. That collar makes it more formal

From the description ...from dress-down office wear to a casual weekend wardrobe choice...

I clearly need to change my mindset!

(Also they need a curvier model or a smaller size because she looks swamped in it. I very much don't 😄)

Black tights, black boots, black jacket, black turtle neck. I think it would look lovely.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 20/01/2024 18:13

I don't think it's a particularly dressed up dress. I'd wear it with black opaque tights and flat, black laced up ankle boots.

It's the cuffs which are the best part of it. I wouldn't have picked it , whilst I'd have gone for the sleeves and cuffs I don't like dipped hems.

Saxendi · 20/01/2024 18:17

As others have said opaque tights, boots and a turtle neck way to go with it, definitely would not have it altered. I'd like a few brooches on the collar as well!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 20/01/2024 18:23

Thanks for the comments. I shall leave it intact.

(I also hate dipped hems but it actually looks quite nice in the flesh. But I honestly don't know how this dress came to be in my wardrobe at all 😂)

It's the sort of dress, where you just have to think " oh to hell with it, it's either wear it or waste". Once you get over the dressing it down part the first time you'll be fine.

Assuming you're local to where the website I posted ,and it's cold, you can dress it down further by putting a longish slouchy, cardigan on top. I've got a sort of purpleish, slouchy, boiled wool cardigan/ jacket from Oska which goes with almost every dress I own when it's cold.
