What do people think of these? I’m 43 and looking for natural ways stay looking young as far as is reasonable. Do they work at all, and can anyone recommend a particular brand?

I don’t think there’s much evidence for taking collagen supplements. I would say avoid Forever Living who are really pushing their expensive collagen supplements at the moment - they’re an MLM company so their reps will tell you anything!

luluofthevallies · 20/01/2024 11:55

I use Ancient and Brave but really couldn't say that I've seen any noticeable difference.

OneMoreTime23 · 20/01/2024 11:56

I started Kollo yesterday. Trying them for a month. They actually taste okay.

Thesoundofmusic23 · 20/01/2024 12:03

I’m using British Supplements - beware online fakes mimicking them. They are fab, cheaper than most and noticed a difference in skin after only a few days and hair in a few weeks. I’m a bit older than you though so prob any further to row back as it were.

GettingStuffed · 20/01/2024 12:03

I use topical collagen and that definitely works

I tried Just Collagen (bright yellow packaging) about 3 months ago, and they tasted rank. After 4 days, I couldn't face another one. I gave the remainder of the subscription (cancelled after 1 month) to my DD, who took one, but the next day she retched when she accidentally smelt an open packet and couldn't continue. The subscription was easy to set up, but you had to ring to cancel, and they tried to offer you freebies to continue. PITA to get out of! I wouldn't recommend.

Pretty sure it’s well documented that collagen supplements have no discernible effects, OP (I also tried them years ago, and nada)

dailyduel · 20/01/2024 18:49

I tried them. They don’t work and are a waste of money.

I’m 50 and I got ID’d a few months ago at Sainsburys. It was after I had started taking Ingenious Beauty collagen supplements every night. They really plump up my skin. I liked the powder from Beauty Pie too but find it much more convenient to take the capsules at night. It’s not a magic bullet and you don’t get results overnight though.

mollyfolk · 20/01/2024 22:48

There is no proof that they work yet. I starting taking collagen 6 months ago and my skin is looking good and is very soft however I also started taking turmeric and omega 3! So I’m not sure what helped the most. People started to comment on my skin after about 12 weeks.

Ha
Te to tell you but they id everyone. I'm 58 and they id me. I don't look like a teen.

TheDevilGun · 20/01/2024 23:08

They don't work, a doctor on This Morning last week said they have absolutely no effect, save your money

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 21/01/2024 10:03

Sains do id a lot of people.

MissGroves · 21/01/2024 18:25

I use one (not at home, can't remember brand - got at Hollanf and Barrett) amd haven't noticed anything with my skin but my hair I have! I have fine baby hair around my face and being fair it looks like I have a receding hair line, but this hair has grown and thickened a bit! I may be able to wear my hair up at this rate 😂

annabelindajane · 26/08/2024 11:12

I highly recommend Willpowders collagen . 1 year on chest lines reduced , eyebrows thicker and plumper skin .

Decaffeinatedplease · 26/08/2024 11:18

I don't think there's amazing research for collagen for skin, as in not enough perhaps, but there is some evidence it might help with arthritis, I've used it for joint purposes, to help knees and hips and I think it has helped, so I've no idea why it then wouldn't help your skin a little too? Just because a doctor on This Morning says something doesn't make it true (they are probably right there's no definitive research though).

Decaffeinatedplease · 26/08/2024 11:19

The other thing is that collagen contains some protein, so it may act via that route. There's also different types, vegan, bovine and marine, which all may act differently.

I take marine or vegan as I can't stand the smell of bovine collagen, I just can't take it.

Tarragon123 · 26/08/2024 21:12

I take marine collagen, have done for a couple of years. It keeps my psoriasis at bay. I couldnt believe the difference that it made. As for keeping wrinkles at bay etc, not so much.

Pops1985 · 26/08/2024 21:34

I take Vital Proteins collagen peptide powder every day and I do think it’s had a good impact on my skin, nails and hair health.

Emmmmz9 · 03/11/2024 10:12

I’m being bombarded by Kollo adverts that mention so many amazing reviews!
is the general opinion still to not waste money on these?

Tontostitis · 16/02/2025 06:18

Anybody know the difference between marine, bovine and vegan? I'd like to try collagen but can't decide which. I'm leaning towards marine. I already take a supplement for skin, hair and nails and see a noticeable difference when I stop.

Emmmmz9 · 19/02/2025 08:58

Update from me - I’ve been taking Kollo (marine) for two months and have already noticed new hair growth and skin has improved
