Hey, just came across this thread as am doing research for my daughter.
im a makeup artist and have a history in beauty and skincare and am REALLY passionate about encouraging people of any age to take care of their skin.
for any age a skincare routine is something that is SELF CARE and encouraging it to me is a positive thing from struggling with my own mental health issues, self care is the thing that goes first for me so understand the importance.
BYOMA & BUBBLE are HUGELY popular for kids, I work in Boots for a makeup brand so see all the traffic in these areas. The ingredients are on par with BareMinerals as a clean brand but do not have the premium price tag. BYOMA is the cheapest but bubble and BareMinerals plush cleanser are more premium priced but still extremely good value for money. Ironically, Benefit SKINCARE is clean but their makeup isn’t.
as to quality of ingredients, it really is a personal preference and there is no judgement on what every person feels is acceptable as an ingredient. I’ve worked in the industry soo long and gone through such a process learning about formulations that I promote cleaner brands because of what I know and what I feel comfortable with but finding clean products is a minefield.
Makeup wise, it is REALLY HARD to find makeup for kids/tweens and have even thought to create one myself.
Brands like elf and revolution, no.7 (not as much), 17 and any self select products (the big stands where there’s no one there and you just stare into an abyss of products iykwim) greenwash and ARE LIMITED with quality ingredients, when they do use quality ones, they will be minimal in use.
be wary of brands that state: vegan, cruelty free, GLUTEN FREE 😳🙄 yup that’s a good marketing ploy, organic* naturally derived, these are all the term GREENWASHING it’s really common at the moment in the industry.
Milk makeup and BareMinerals is from my research are as close to clean as you can get.
AVOID TALC in products, this is a HUUUUUGE personal thing for me, talc is mined and can only be found in the earth close to asbestos which is natural. If companies do not have clean and strict mining guidelines and checking the risk of asbestos in products is higher. My grandfather had mesothelioma, which is the asbestos cancer and it was the hardest thing to watch so TO ME is something that can be avoided more easily than others.
with regards to toothpastes, sunscreens etc etc it is a case of personal preference because there are so many rabbit holes you can go down!
I hope this has helped a little bit, if you need any further info feel free to reach out.
