Dermatica and under eye area

Just signed up for dermatica and it says not to get in undereye area. That's one if my worst areas and I was hoping it would have helped. I am a cancer patient in my thirties and have aged dramatically since my treatment. I will be on tamoxifen for 10 years which will cause further premature aging.

What to use there instead?

@Sirprised I use "Skin and Me" and have read around the use of tretinoin quite a bit. This YouTube channel is brilliant especially for beginners, sponsored by Dermatica. She gives you a face map of where to put the cream, as it migrates.

Hth 🙂

Yeah don’t put tret directly under the eye but a specific retinol eye cream like PP has suggested is a good shout.

you can use it to the side of the eye - think crow lines. I use mine there but I do buffer that area a little bit with moisturiser which dilutes it a little.

My tret has been great so don’t bin it off just because of eyes :)

Thanks everyone, the video was really informative. I'll start using the tret and look into a specific undereye one. I actually cried over my face yesterday. I can't believe how rapidly I have aged. I looked so young and fresh faced before I had chemo and I'm gutted.

I would say it depends on how you tolerate tret on your face. I have really sensitive skin and need to use it really carefully with lots of hydrating products each morning. I can't really use it under my eyes and only apply it around my eye bones. Tret will migrate a bit overnight so I think some of it will go to my under eye area regardless.
If you find you tolerate tret well over time you could try to cautiously use it under your eyes-lots do.
If you look for Hot and Flashy on YouTube she does some great tretinoin videos. She uses it under her eyes and she looks amazing!
Also there's a great Facebook group 'Tretinoin and retinoids users' which is full of informative information. I can finally apply tret every night thanks to the info in the group.

My skin was really sensitive during chemo but now I'd just say it's very dry. Sensitivity doesn't seem to be a problem for now 🤞 but I haven't tried anything of this strength so I might still react. I'll take a look at your suggestions too, thanks.

I didn’t know this and just apply my Dermatica to my whole face except eyelids and upper lip (as I like to wax that). Haven’t had any issues and been doing it like this for 6 months at least. Why shouldn’t tret go under eyes?

Theforeverhome · 19/01/2024 10:44

I think it depends on just how well you tolerate tretinoin and it’s not recommended to put it under your eyes immediately but you may work up to it over a period of time if you have no adverse effects. I always use an eyecream to provide a buffer before I spread my Tret all over my face (apart from eyelids). I can’t use the Tret on my neck though.

The Facebook group mentioned by a PP is good but your mind will be blown by the number of products that people use.

Theforeverhome · 19/01/2024 10:49

Also, if you have dry skin, you will be looking to use a lot of products that keep your skin hydrated. So after Tret, I use moisturiser then Squalane and my skin isn’t particularly dry. There are many different methods that people swear by - all very individual and be prepared that it could cause you to be spotty as your skin purges what lies underneath, or have lots of flaking skin.

You also have to use sunscreen every day.
