How important is it to you that your brands are cruelty free

Have recently been checking and frankly horrified how many I've been using that have been tested on animals .. or might have been.

For me this will change.

It's very high priority for me. The odd thing does slip through the net but I feel terrible about it.

Animal testing for cosmetics should be completely abolished.

dottiedodah · 16/01/2024 17:36

ELF beauty products are all one range ,no reason to faff around getting different makes (obv other brands are avaliable) I would choose cruelty free is possible

ginasevern · 16/01/2024 18:24

It's the most important factor to me. I can't believe so many posters have never even thought about it.

AliceMcK · 17/01/2024 03:32

@SparrowFeet i use the WWF scorecard as my main source for brands which use sustainable palm oil or not.

I was one who said that. However, I am a long time user of Body Shop products, and started buying from there when they launched, and the main reason being that they were cruelty free. I don't really wear make up, and my moisturisers are from No7. So actually, even though I haven't kept up with new companies, I think I am doing OK?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 17/01/2024 18:14

I understand Superdrug own brand products are good.

@AWOL66 thankyou- great post.

It's that thing about 'don't let good be the enemy of perfect'. Do what you can as you're able Smile

Well put! ☺️

@AWOL66 thankyou for such a detailed and sensible response 😊

I think my plan is to use up what I have already and then do my best to replace with products I have researched beforehand.

Good on you.☺️I learned a lot since you posted this too.

When I first started buying makeup decades ago, it was Rimmel and looks like I'll be going back to Rimmel.

I know it’s great news that some of the big companies are now cruelty free. Cover girl was one of the first.

I use ecover for household products but I am stuck on drain cleaner - any suggestions?

Sainsburys cleaning products are leaping bunny approved, they do a sink unblocker you can use as drain cleaner, it’s caustic soda based which is what drain cleaners usually are.

Sure, rimmel the brand is cruelty free, but their parent company isn't.

Honeyroar · 25/01/2024 18:45

True, but I always think if the parent company sees the cruelty free stuff doing well it might spur them into reviewing the rest..

I thought Ecover had lost its leaping bunny status a few years ago?? I stopped using it.

Sainsburys is good, as is Aldi.

Can anyone shed light on :
NUXE

Their website
"Nuxe does not test any of its products or raw materials on animals and thus complies with European regulations".

"What about China"?
"A selection of Nuxe products are distributed in China. Regulations in China differ from those in other countries in which we are present: some imported cosmetic products are subject to testing on animals, decided unilaterally by China, which we do not approve of. We strongly wish to see these practices replaced by alternative methods and are seeking to contribute to a change in the position of the Chinese authorities in this respect"

.
M&S Stocks Nuxe and some of their products have Cruelty Free in the M&S description.

But a search online says they started selling some of their products in China in 2018.

I used to love Nuxe but haven't used it since I heard this change in selling .

So is M&S incorrect in their labelling
Or is it only some items ?

It is still off my list

Mercurial123 · 28/01/2024 02:47

Yes theres a couple of websites , ( CFK and I think EthicalElephant) state the same .
I tried to email M&S to ask them why they put this and they should change it but I cannot get the email to work , just keeps taking me round in circles .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/01/2024 02:57

Features
Suitable for all skin types
Suitable for vegans
Cruelty Free

This from the Huile Prodigieuse Multipurpose Oil 50ml

It's poor form - so many people would trust M&S

macedoniann · 28/01/2024 04:39

Very important OP I only buy small . niche brands. The moment they get sold to a Conglomerate (e.g. Body Shop) I stop.
I didn't realise so many products had the potential to be cruelty free though only focused on hair and makeup.

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 28/01/2024 07:59

I always look for
cruelty free brands. I also tend to stick with something once I start using it.

This thread has made me feel
sick, tbh. Brands that say they are cruelty free on their website, aren’t, when you dig deeper, including things I’ve been using for years.

padsi1975 · 28/01/2024 08:05

Essential. There is no excuse to inflict pain on animals for a beauty product. And it's not difficult to find alternatives. Takes a bit more work but not much.
