What do you find yourself updating every year?

I am now looking at plain vests and t shirts to wear with jeans and pleated skirts. I like to keep on top gym / running socks and multipack knickers, to make sure they do not look scruffy.

General observation is that with exception of quality coats, accessories and workwear, I seem to never have enough casual / smart casual clothes. They get looking tired, faded, shrink, get dated, or I fall out of love them. Would like to build up my selection but can’t seem to get there. I am obsessive about looking after my stuff, the right detergent, steamer where best, dry cleaning. But still splotches just wear off and need replacement.

Does anyone else find themselves constantly “needing” something?

I’m desperate for some really good quality long sleeved black T-shirts, the kind that Jigsaw used to do so well. Really struggling to find any without a high neckline. I don’t like the double fronted scoop ones.

You’ve reminded me that it’s time to cull my undies and socks!

@Princessfluffy Which cotton button ups are you buying?

Princessfluffy · 15/01/2024 08:18

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I don't need to buy any more I have loads and they last forever!!

They are good to buy secondhand for that reason I reckon, most of mine are secondhand finds.

I have a big stack of them from Liberty, Boden, M&S, Seasalt, Levi's,
Witchery, lots of different brands. I love to wear them with denim or pinafore dresses.

Woven fabrics make very jersey fabrics every time if you want clothes to last.

*woven fabrics OVER jersey fabrics that was meant to say!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/01/2024 18:11

Thanks @Princessfluffy I'll try M&S to start with. I haven't seen a black button down for years, and now I want one!

Apart from knickers and socks, long sleeved t-shirts to wear under jumpers in the winter and short sleeved t-shirts to wear under strappy dresses in the spring (when it's getting warm but not warm enough).

Trainers, more or less, since I like Asics with its netting on top and find that this develops a hole quite quickly. The ones I have now are still fine (bought last March), but the ones before that I sent back because they had developed a hole in less than six months (which they guarantee for) and the one before that likewise developed the same issue, only then I wasn't aware I could send them back and get a refund.

Other than that, I expect clothes to last much longer. I did have some shorts that were looking a bit tired and faded, but I redyed them with fabric dye and now they're looking fresh and ready for a few more years of summer.
