Period pants, any good if you have heavy periods?

If so can you recommend a brand please? There's so many different types out there and they're quite expensive so I don't want to invest if they're no good.

asked my friends but none uses them. Also ttc at the moment, anyone used them after having a baby?

I have modibodi for heaviest days and m&s heavy flow for lighter days, wouldn’t trust m&s mid-period as the pad part is quite short. TBH on my very heaviest days ( I’m 6 months postpartum and periods are horrible) I leak so change mid-day, even with the maxi modibodi.

I’ve just ordered some disposable pads from regn, I think I’ll pop those over the modibodis on heavy days & remove after a few hours to get more wear from the pants.

Remember you must leave them to dry without heat so they take several days so you basically need loads of pairs to get you through a 5 day period, hoping the pads will help with this.

I wish I’d sized up in the Modibodi, especially given the time of the month you wear them! M&S are true to size.

NonSequentialRhubarb · 13/01/2024 22:26

I have the M&S ones and they work great for my heaviest days. Never leaked, even at night.

DataBatman · 13/01/2024 22:30

No good for heavy periods ime. I use them as backup with a cup.

UnimaginableWindBird · 13/01/2024 22:34

I use the M&S heavy ones on light days, and Modibodi heavy for medium and maxi/24 hours for heavy. The Modibodi ones have been genuinely life changing, as since I bought them, I've stopped bleeding all over my sheets every month. I usually buy the high waist bikini style, but I bought a pair of Modibodi hipster shorts and they fit me all wrong and leaked, so I think that there is also an issue of body shape, so one person's perfect brand might be terrible for someone else.

Having said that, Modibodi and Wuka do seem to get the most consistent praise.

Papillon23 · 13/01/2024 22:38

I have a question about these which is why I've not bought them yet.

Is the entire knicker period-proof?

If I'm asleep or whatever things can be beyond just a gusset area so I wouldn't want to buy them and then bleed straight through a bit that wasn't the gusset. Unless they have a much bigger gusset than a normal pair of pants?

Garman · 13/01/2024 22:39

Gusset fabric extends a lot.

PepsiMaxLime · 14/01/2024 07:12

@Papillon23 the m&s heavy flow just have the same coverage as a disposable pad, but the modibodi maxi/overnight’s gusset goes all the way up the front & back

PepsiMaxLime · 14/01/2024 07:13

Also OP, make sure you get a little bag so if you need to switch while out and about you have somewhere discrete to store them. Both Modibodi and M&S do them

Papillon23 · 14/01/2024 07:24

Thank you @PepsiMaxLime - I will investigate modibodi.

Blessedbethefruitz · 14/01/2024 07:50

I used them before my kids and now after :) For the post birth bleeding I doubled up with disposable pads as I was paranoid about hygiene! I take the mini pill now and seem to have random very very light periods with no pattern of frequency, so it's much nicer for me than wearing sanpro. I'm using cheeky wipes atm, but I've also used mobibody, both good. I wouldn't say they're great for heavy periods, I guess you'd just have to change more though.

So the m&s ones don't wrap around? I need to restock...

CrabbyCat · 14/01/2024 07:51

I have heavy periods and have several of the WUKA super heavy ones linked above, two of these cheaper WUKA ones https://www.modibodi.co.uk/products/classic-bikini-maxi , one pair of the highest absorbency ones Modibodi do https://www.modibodi.co.uk/products/classic-bikini-maxi and some Primark ones.

The WUKA super heavy flow ones are ace, they have never leaked on me, I can wear them for a full day on the first day of my period (although by about 7 pm they do start feeling a bit damp, so I sometimes change for comfort). The cheaper WUKA ones do for overnight from the second day on for me, or for day from the 3rd day - they say they do 4 tampons but I find them considerably better than that. They

The Modibodi ones I have had problems with them leaking. Despite what it says on the information, they seem to have a lower absorbency than the cheaper WUKA ones, I use the one pair I have for nighttime for the 3rd day.

All of the above have lined gussets all the way up. The Primark heavy flow ones I have don't, and are only useful for very light flow at the end. They were bought a few years ago, I don't know if they've improved since.

My general conclusions would be 1) buy black I'd you have heavy periods because it won't stain if they do leak, and 2) start by buying one pair of a few different brands / model to try to see how they work for you, even if some pairs won't all cope with your heaviest flow you'll still be able to use them later on. Both Modibodi and WUKA had free postage when I bought mine so buying just one pair didn't mean a huge postage hit.

Classic Bikini Period Underwear | Maxi Absorbency | Modibodi UK

Classic Bikini from Modibodi, with Maxi Absorbency to keep you leak free from period and incontinence and comfy all day and provide extra protection at night.

Applesandpears23 · 14/01/2024 07:55

Wuka’s heaviest flow ones have absorbent material all the way up to the waist band. As a front sleeper this is vital for me.

ruralwanderer · 14/01/2024 07:56

I love my Cheeky pants and wear them for a full 12 hours at a time and still feel dry. My periods aren't that heavy though.

crazycatladie · 14/01/2024 07:58

M and S one's weren't any good for me , they leaked.

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 14/01/2024 07:58

I have heavy periods and can’t use them, clots are my main issue.

familyissues12345 · 14/01/2024 08:10

I use them every month, but never on their own. My periods are very heavy annoyingly, so I use them with a pad or tampon (sometimes both). The real positive for me is I've stopped leaking all over the sheets at night! Blush

I have Primark ones, they could do with replacing soon so watching this thread carefully

Another vote for M&S. I don't have periods anymore but when I did I was very heavy & would use tampon, pad & period pants all at once!

Yes me too.
I used maternity pads + period pads after birth too... Found them great for catching leaks
