How can I smell good after a shower?

Allchangename354 · 13/01/2024 19:42

I use Molton Brown black pepper shower gel. Lush shampoo bar and then wella vibrant colour conditioner.

At the end of a shower I am clean, but I just smell neutral. Not bad, just nothing. The bathroom doesn’t smell either.

I don’t use a sponge - would that make a difference as I don’t get any bubbles or lather? I’ve tried bar soaps instead of shower gel but I don’t feel clean and it’s a bit more difficult due to disability. I could have another go if it would make a big difference.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you sure you don't smell of the molton brown? It's quite powerful.

LaughingAtClowns · 13/01/2024 20:15

I like Sanctuary Spa products. The scent is really strong.

QueSyrahSyrah · 13/01/2024 20:16

I only smell nice after a shower if I use a nice moisturiser, as I've thoroughly rinsed off all the shower products and they're not really on my skin long enough to 'sink in'.

SuperMarioMaker · 13/01/2024 20:23

Are you sure you don't smell? It might be a case of you've used the same product that long that you're now blind to the smell.

You could try the whole thing of using a body wash, body lotion and then fragrance all of the same type.

I always smell nice after a shower but I smell of the combination of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, moisturiser, face cream and foot cream. It's not just one product.

Missingmyusername · 13/01/2024 20:27

Probably layering, so pick one brand and get the shower gel, body lotion and perfume for example. I think we get accustomed to ‘smells’. So it may be you can’t smell your scent, but others can.

Razorflight · 13/01/2024 20:34

You’re probably used to it.
I like the lather you get from one of those shower puff things.

Britpopbaby · 13/01/2024 20:35

I’m using the same shower gel as you @Allchangename354 and I can smell it after my shower.

Oowoo · 13/01/2024 20:38

You probably do smell of the shower gel have just gone nose blind!! I would switch up the scent if you’re looking for a simple option!
Or I’ve really been enjoying using a shower oil or a body oil after. Lush have a solid rose one which smells nice, but any shower oil would work, I feel like they stay in the skin much longer!! A loofah or something used with the shower gel prior to the oil will get off all the dead skin cells so the oil can proper soak in xx

Allchangename354 · 13/01/2024 21:01

Thanks - I’ll try a change of brand for the shower gel.

Molton Brown is quite strong. I use Roger & Gallet, I can always smell it when I go back into the bathroom.

pizzaHeart · 13/01/2024 21:14

I can’t believe you do not smell after using so many products!!! As everybody’s saying you are just used to it.
DD was gifted a lush bath bomb once - I literally couldn’t be in the bathroom while it was laying there.

thedementedelf · 13/01/2024 21:20

You might be nose blind op. Those products are strong so I'm sure everyone else can smell it.

Allchangename354 · 13/01/2024 21:31

It was DM that first mentioned it. I’ll report back after trying another shower gel.

Molton Brown is quite chemically.

Maybe try something more natural.

High end isn't necessarily the best.,it's often quite pungent to disguise its origins.

whoactuallyreallycares · 13/01/2024 21:38

Bath and body works shower gels stick to your skin, I know this because my other half used it in the shower last week and he came down smelling exactly like it ha!

dudsville · 13/01/2024 21:44

Some scents don't stick, and this varies person to person. Someone from the long running perfume thread probably knows why that is.

OnlyCorrect · 13/01/2024 22:00

Those are very strongly scented products so if you're not getting any lather at all could it be you're not using enough or for long enough? Does your disability allow the use of a shower puff or loofah type thing?

ActDottie · 13/01/2024 22:10

I find my skin doesn’t really hold any smell from soaps etc. but my hair does. I always notice if I’ve got an extra nice conditioner in. May be worth trying a conditioner that has a different smell (the smell you’re after) and seeing if that makes a difference.

Allchangename354 · 14/02/2024 21:15

An update - changed my shower gel and noticed it so I was partly just used to the smell.

Also realised that I wasn’t just rinsing off the conditioner but there so long that any lingering aroma went.

I don't think the scent of shower gels or bar soaps are really meant to linger on your body.

If you want to have a scent linger and smell for a few hours, then try a nice body lotion and perfume.

Layering is the way to go.
Matching shower stuff, body lotion and talc.
Give it a go.

Your aroma will be something you’ve got used to but your scent will be much appreciated by others. 😉

Jo malone body wash is amazing...also body lotion.
Not cheap but lasts for ages

Helplessandheartbroke · 14/02/2024 21:42

Ds was smelling my arm the other night so I had a sniff to see why and I smelt like the dove shower gel I'd used! Very strong

Janedoe82 · 14/02/2024 21:44
